Full Version: How Long 'til I Can Plant My Tank
Forum > The Goldfish Topics > Goldfish Tanks > Goldfish plants, & how to set up a planted tank

I'm planning to plant my 60 gallon tank, but I recently had to treat the tank for ich for my new little guy. I used the 0.3% aquarium salt method, and started on April 1. So far, the treatment has been effective for the ich. Do I need to make sure all the salt is gone before I add plants? I have ordered new lights and I mostly plan to plant anubias, crypts, onion, java moss, dwarf sag, and a couple Amazon swords. I realize some or all of it may get eaten, but hopefully something will survive (or my 2 little buddies will have a nice salad biggrin.gif )

I had a few plants in a salted tank and they were fine. The only one that I know the species of for sure was an amazon sword. It seemed fine to me, as the salt treatment didn't really last too long. Good luck!

i usually pull the plants out from a salted tank. i hear salt can kill the plants.

better be on the safe side and get all the salt out first. The salt already did its job right?

We pulled our plants out mid salt as they were starting to show wear from the salt.
Put them in the QT tank (which now seems to have 2 baby snails in it from a couple of new plants we picked up last weekend) until we were ready to reduce the salt level again. They are now back in the main tank and doing fine
