Full Version: What To Do With "sporelings"

Ponderosa Power
Enough new leaves have grown in for me to trim off the blackened leaves on the windelov java ferns that were damaged at the LFS today. All those leaves had multiple babies that had grown from the spores on them, so I cut off about 15 of them. Some are an inch, others are only a few milimeters. What do I do with them? I have them floating in a little container of tank water for now. How long can I keep them there without light? Is there a better way to grow them? Most are too small to attatch to anything right now. There's no way I can keep all of these plants when they grow bigger so I think I'll be giving them away later.

Whoa, I have no idea what happened with those two duplicate posts. The aren't even showing up as real posts when you try to open them. It must be my grandma's mouse. Its having a hard time here lol. Uhhhh mods please delete those other two. unsure.gif

I leave my java moss babies until they are big enough to tie somewhere else or leave them and they just grow where they are making a huge clump. They are ok just free swimming as they are but you need a bit more light to help them grow.

Okay, I think I'll toss the smaller ones and keep the bigger ones in the tank til they are big enough to tie. I dunno what I'd do with all those plants!
