Can a fish full of eggs exhibit the "dropsy look" with scales sticking out?? She is being treated with meds right now, but to no effect so far. It just occured to me that she may be swollen with eggs?? Has anyone ever heard of this??

When my fish were eggbound (sadly Ive had a few) they were grossly swollen but their scales were still flat. If your fish is pineconing she might have dropsy. Is it all over her body or just in one area that the scales are pineconing?

Is it possible for one side to be more swollen than the other if the fish is eggbound? One of my tetras are having issues and I can't figure out what's wrong. Both sides started out very swollen and after weeks of fasting/peas/daphnia one side looks like its going down a tad

Yes, that is entirely possible, Kissy. Some females always are wider on one side than the other, its a typical "female" symptom. Although aren't tetras lifebearers? Those babies gotta come out eventually....

I've had her for about a month and she didn't used to be so round. From a top view, her sides bloat out. If you can help I have a thread in the topical section. I think the others have run out of ideas
Tetras are egg scatterers.
