heartpump.gif Ummm..I been having my 2 comet pretty long..they r maybe 3 or 4 inches long...Soo..today I was feeding them and I was watching them very close to see if they have ick of them..Then..I saw 5 tiny white spot on both of my fish gill cover..It was White as snow..But..Their fins and body dosn't have any of those white spot..Only there gill cover..I heard that people on here saying that when a fish have those white spot ..They'er going to go make baby??Right??Plus I donna if my fish r male or female..??Plzzz..Somebody help me..Okey..Thanks

White spots on the gill covers are called "breeding stars" and males develope these when they reach maturity. Sometimes they have heaps of stars and then they may fade, then come back again. Must have something to do with the seasons or the proximity of females.

If the spots don't spread to the rest of the body and your fish are acting normally, then I don't think it's ich.

Breeding stars are the white dots that form on the gill covers when the male is mature.

Here's a photo of my young black moor that has breeding tubercles (stars). You can see that they are also on the leading edge of his pectoral fins. If what you fish has on him looks like this, chances are real good he doesn't have ich.

Don't look at the white particles floating around in the photo, just his gill covers and pectoral fins...The fish had just finished eating when I took this photo.
