Hi - I am not exactly sure what your fish died of (sorry about that), but if you want to perform a thorough sterilization, I would suggest nukin' your entire tank. Now you mention you have another fish currently in there. You can move your fish to a separate tank and perform daily 100% water changes while you nuke out your present tank and recycle. That would be your best bet. If you want to leave your fish in it's current tank, you don't want to go in there and disturb the gravel, etc etc as you will bump your cycle (if you have one already established).

I will answer your questions below as if you are going to sterlize you tank while your fish is in a temporary home. One thing I'd like to mention, is that the product Potassium Permanganate is an excellent disinfectant especially in relation to fish keeping. I have used this product to sterilize all my tanks / equipment. If you can get your hands on it, I would get it. Else, a bleach solution works just great.

Choice is up to you.  Depends on how much gravel you have in there.  You can remove the gravel and boil it for 10-15 minutes.  Or, you can just remove the gravel and purchase new gravel.

I am assuming these are plastic / silk plants?  If so, you can rinse them in a light bleach / water solution; be sure to rinse thoroughly.

Not sure of your question....but if you're referring to how to sterilize it, I would suggest a light bleach / water solution and then a good rinsing in super super hot water.  If you can, let it dry in the sun (uv rays).  If no sun is available (as it is snowing by me right now), air dry will be fine.

what about filters do i need to change the spunge...?

The filter can be rinsed out in the bleach / water solution as well.  The sponge should be replaced.  If you have ceramic media you can boil that as well, or just replace it.

What is that product, specifically?

Nah....unless you are trying to get rid of the algae?  Is your tank by a source of light?
