Hey!

I was uptown today and managed to stop by *looks around* a petstore that I won't name... to look at some fishies just to waste time before an appointment...

I was going down the line of tanks and I seen a tank filled mostly with Tiger Barbs (15+), but I also seen 3 Fire Mouth Chichilids (LoL did I spell that right? I don't think I did o.0).. mixed in with the barbs. All of the fish in the tank were very young... no more than an inch or two. The little Fire Mouth's were badly harassing all those Tiger Barbs though.. I mean bad, and those little bullies were just a little smaller than the barbs were o.0

I was just curious if they are compatable or not. It sure didn't seem so in that tank! Poor fishies!

Heh, and I seen so many new fishies there too! There were some very pretty scissor tail rasbora, beautiful yellow long-finned danios, some cute little loaches I so badly wanted (LoL!), and a whole tank full of the cutest little clown fishies!! I never knew there were so many types o.0 I only knew about the orange clown fish and the tomato o.0 LoL

I also spotted a pet store I've seen in the phone book and online on my way home too! I guess they moved to this new location because they weren't there before! At least I can find them now and hopefully drop by soon to take a look smile.gif

Hehe, also on my way home, at good old WallyWorld (of all places o.0) I found a stand for my 20 gallon tank! I couldn't get it today, but I'm hoping for Friday smile.gif That will just leave the filter, heater and gravel as the big parts to get it going biggrin.gif Ooh, I can't wait! o.0 Their fish tanks looked great for a change too! They were all nice and clean and had such healthy and active fish, yay! Hopefully it stays that way now smile.gif

Anyways, was mostly just wondering about the barbs and fire mouth! It's nothing important, I don't plan on getting either one. I just felt bad for the poor little guys LoL

if they were kribs, then itsbad, but not horrible. if its true firemouths, then the barbs are snack food

I'm not sure how to tell them apart LoL. I don't see many chichilids around here.... until recently LoL.. The backs were mostly a light black or darkish grey color, and I think I remember seeing little tiny blackish spots on the body, and just under the mouth but before the stomach area there was sort of a redish spot of coloring.

Since some chiclids (sp?) aren't even compatable with other kinds of chiclids (sp?), I would say that is a bad match. VERY bad match...

That's sort of what I was thinking when they were mixed with the barbs. If they are still there when I'm up next (I'm hoping to drop by friday afternoon after my next appointment but I don't know if I can stop anywhere afterwards or not), I'll make a complaint to the store about it sad.gif

Thanks everybody!

Anytime. Glad we could be of help.

As far as cichlids go firemouths are not very aggresive in most situations. I can imagin them being nipped at by tiger barbs. That does not mean they cannot be kept together. Healthy firemouths in the right aquaria conditions probably would not take crap from the barbs and if the tank was large enough and had a good sized group of barbs the barbs probably would not even notice the firemouth. As with so many other fish, it's hit or miss.

LoL I was just curious about it because the few in with the Barbs were acting pretty aggressivly towards the poor things. I don't plan on owning either types of fish, but I wanted to know if I should bring it up with the pet store or not.

If I can stop by after my appointment tomorrow, I'll mention something to one of the staff if they are still together in the same tank and being picked at... It wasn't a *huge* tank. They are the average size tanks you tend to see at a lot of pet stores though built into the wall and such LoL. They looked to be 10+ gallons at least, but I doubt they were larger than 15. It was overcrowded for the tank size definatly, but most pet stores tend to do that -_-
