I found this list for sale for around $100.00. Can anyone tell by reading this if these things are worth the money? I don't even know what some of this is! He said that he bought it all new last year, he has been the only owner and no leaks. I am trying to start a fish recue in my area and need all the (good) equipment that I can get!
50 GAL tank
20GAL tank
Lighting
Steel frame stand
Eheim 2026 Pro II filter
Eheim Battery operated Auto Feeder
Aqua logic digital temperature controller
Mag Drive water pump (forgot which model, but powerful enough for me)
two AquaClear Powerfilters
9W Turbo-Twist UV Sterilizer
Jäger 250W heater
Rena Air 400 air pump
Three sponge filters.

It sounds like a great deal however, I stress that used equipment may come with some headaches. Although its tempting especially with high end and big dollar filters, Never use them for the simple fact that they could house parasites and disease even if you replace all of the media that was used. I always look at the seller like this. Why did he/she take down the tank? did they move, took up too much room or could it be and most likely that they didnt know what they were doing and kept losing fish. If thats the care, was it from lack of maintenence, disease or the other things that could go wrong. Sterilization is key to a used set up but I would strongly be against using the filters ever again.

A $100.00 is a good price for that stuff. I understand throttlethumb's concern with the filters. But IMO if you use a strong enough bleach solution and let the filter parts sit in it long enough, you can kill anything that might be left lurking in the filters. I figure bleach is cheap... Use it full strength.

I agree with throttlethumb about used equipment. I like everything to look good and run clean, but he says that he bought everthing less than a year ago and there are no problems or leaks. The 50 gal tank hasn't ben taken down yet and he has 6 very large discus in it. I believe that he is growing out of his current tank situation, but I didn't ask. His fish look very pretty and healthy in the pictures, but who knows. I also agree with bak2it about sterilization. I have read a few posts from the moderators about cleaning hospital tanks with one part bleach and 19 parts water and letting them run for a while like that and then rinsing everything VERY well. If that will clean a hospital tank I would hope it would clean these tanks. Like I said, I am not sure what some of the equipment even is, but I'm sure with help from this site, someone could tell me what I have (if I buy it). So it does sound like a good buy?
