Hi everyone! I just got a new dojo and he is in with my goldies. I have never had one of these little critters before and don't really know what to expect. One question I have already is that one of the goldies will touch him and he will spin really quickly and go up to it and touch the goldie. Is he being aggressive and means to hurt them or is he just checking them out in return? Are they aggressive or just friendly? He is a 3"ish long white cutie. Do I just feed the goldies and he will eat what falls to the bottom? Should I feed them flakes in addition to the pellets I feed them now so some will fall to the bottom? I'm just not sure how to take care of this fellow and would really appreciate some tips and advice. Thank you!!

Whew! Change your font size! blink.gif

Dojo's are great! I personally have the worst luck with them, think it is some sort of curse. Good luck with yours! They are neat creatures!

smile.gif Congrats on the new Dojo. What size is your tank and Goldies, and how many do you have? Dojo's are a great addition to your Goldfish. They're very curious and friendly creatures and love to tease and play. They however really prefer to have another Dojo with them. smile.gif
As for food, they'll eat pretty much anything your Goldies will.My Dojo's love frozen Bloodworms and Pro-Gold! laugh.gif

Sorry about the font size. I love my dew dojo. He has so much personality! I wondered about having two of them. I will get another one if I can find one. It took me a year to find this one but maybe the same store will have another soon. Thank you!!

Dojos are not picky eaters and will eat everything your goldfish will eat. Mine especially love sinking shrimp pellets smile.gif

i have 2 and they are so cute together. i think they prefer company though, to play around with when the weather changes. they tend to hide during the day and come out at night. mine live bloodworm to, compete with the fancies for it!!
they like to bury themselves in the gravel, and in my case under a log!!

great fun to watch, and they whizz around the tank so fast!! i have never had any trouble with them, they are just curious as to what the huge fish swimming above them are!!

The guy at the pet store said the dojo's are tropical fish but I had never heard that. My new guy seems fine in the cold water with the goldies. He has so much personality and checks out everything. There are lots of hidey-holes in the tank for him too. I will try to get another one for companionship. Are they really tropicals?
claire_uk
they can live in tropical tanks, up to 76f, from what i have read, but apparantly the higher than 76f shortens their life. i have mine in coldwater tank, as do most people i think.
yer they do tend to check out everything, very nosy, messing around in the gravel. has he buried himself yet, they like to do that. i often notice the gravel move right along the tank then a head pops up, very alien like!!

but a companion would be very good, and they will probably play together

I keep mine in an unheated tank with my goldfish and they have been living happily there for over two years smile.gif

They're escape artists so make sure you don't have any openings in your hood that they can fit through. I had one that jumped through a hole that was about one square inch in size krazy.gif They do like to have a buddy, the two that I had were the best of friends, they always slept side by side heartpump.gif

They also do a very good job of cleaning up any uneaten food particles and in some cases, fish poop blink.gif biggrin.gif Kind of like a underwater gravel vacuum, they can be pigs so make sure they're fed accordingly.

I will definitely get another one as a companion as soon as I can. He has not buried himself in the gravel yet but I am watching for it. It will be a challenge to clean the tank now too with him all over the place. Also, are the dojo and the weather loach the same thing or just similar to each other? Thank you all!

Both the Dojo, and the Weather Loach are the same fish. I think when you get your little friend a playmate, you're going to be surprised at how much time you spend just watching them. I think I have around 15 Loaches-nine are Dojo's and I adore them. heartpump.gif They do a good job cleaning up food on the bottom, however i've never seen mine eat poop. blink.gif I placed a ring of semi cooked cukecumber in the tank for them today, and it was like being at the circus! laugh.gif They were eating like crazy and jumping through the cukecumber hoop(ring) rofl3.gif
