I went upstair to go do a water change on one of my tanks and I saw my new baby honey gourami motionless and stuck to the intake toobe I freed her and she kinda spun up to the surface to breath but her hole body is twisted horribly. I shut off the filter. Is she going to get better?
I'm devastated you guys...she was my baby.....

Yah it was an aquaclear...I didn't realize how powerful. All lights are off and drapes closed. She's straightend her self out a lot but is hanging pretty much motionless at the surface.

Just give her time and hopefully she wont be too badly damaged. I wouldnt feed for at least 12 hours to make sure that any bruising goes down if theres anything internal.
Maybe try and get something to wrap around the intake as you cant leave the filter off for too long.

What should I wrap around the intake tube? Panty hose? Maybe thats too thin...what about part of a sock or something similar?

Do you have any filter floss? I use that to stop anything being sucked up and it acts like a pre filter too.

Sandy, how do you get the filter floss to stay on the intake? Does the suction keep it in place?
Kissy, I'm so sorry your gourami was hurt. I hope she'll be ok.

I get a large square piece and wrap it around using elastic bands to keep it secure.

Flame's still alive today and her body has straightened out, but you can bet she's completely bruised up inside. She spends most of her time in her corner at the surface hardly moving. Her tail isn't held erect anymore poor thing. The tetras are leaving her alone so thats good. I was a little afraid Chompy would sense her weakness and start bullying her.
The filter was a 150gph Aquaclear. It was the only extra I had, and stupid me forgot that tropicals aren't as strong as goldfish. I still have the filter in the tank, but its on the very lowest setting, and barely more than a trickle.
Dreamgoddess, try fastening it around the tube with a ruberband or two.
Hopefully she's only badly bruised...my worst fear is that her organs were damaged and they'll start to fail later....

She's looking worse this morning

Her body is visibly swollen, she's pale, and just sits vertically with her nose up to the surface. Poor girl..

Kissy, I hate to say this, but I personally think the gourami must have been sick to have been sucked into an AquaClear 150. I use AquaClear 200's on a lot of my tanks, and I haven't had any problems with healthy fish being sucked into the intake tube (besides tiny fry, that is).
I am so sorry about your gourami

aww kissy, i'm so sorry.
i think touch of sky's right tho. i've got the 500 on full force in mine, and yea, it's a slightly bigger tank, but my platys swim around the intake with no difficulty.
still, i know it's tough to lose a fish that you just got. he's in a happier place now, where the water's perfectly filtered w/out the use of power motors

Thanks everyone
Flame was a little sweetie and its hard to get over her but I'm doing pretty good. I've still got two little black neons in qt that need me

Normally when quarentining fish, if one of them falls ill or dies, you should start the qt over after the death or last sign of illness. I wasn't planning on it, but now that you guys are mentioning that she could have been sick and weak before the incident I think I will. I don't want any chance of ruby and rummert getting sick.
I know I still want a honey gourami for my tank, but maybe not the red cinnamon variety now. I remember seeing the sunburst variety (rare from what I've read) at a new petco so maybe I'll get one of those later. I have a hard time buying another fish with personality that looks the same as one that just died..it feels too much like replacement. Anyways I'm rambling about something thats at least a month away so no use in that.
Thanks everyone for helping Flame and helping me through this.
