I have had this guy for about a year with no major problems...except
I cannot keep another plec in there(he's in my 75gal with my goldies) because they all end up dead in a few days time so I quit trying after the 2nd one (tried it later after some time). I had an inkling then that maybe he was causing it. blink.gif
He is very territorial and chases the dojo off quite alot...but since the dojo can swim so fast, it never worried me and it's not a constant thing anyway. Sometimes it's more like they're playing.
He occasionally knocks up against the fish to get them away from his eating space but nothing drastic.
He has plenty of space and claims the tunnels under the bridge as his own personal space and that has always worked....
BUT....
Yesterday I noticed that he didn't just try to knock against my goldies to shoo them out of the way, he was actually latching on to them! ohmy.gif
He didn't stay on long and he would go from one to the other. Whoever swam by next was his target. And this was after they had all eaten (he comes out and eats right there with them) and were just picking through the gravel for left overs.
He did it again last night but he quits and runs when I walk up to the tank.
This morning he did it just a bit not as bad.
My worry is if he's doing it when I'm not around to notice and if he is just going to get worse. There are no marks on my goldies so I don't think a whole lot of harm is being done, but I am afraid he could really be stressing them out.
Should I get him out and see if a store would let me trade him for something?
I do hate to lose him since I've had him so long and all but I don't want any harm to my goldfish either. sad.gif
squeeker
I had this happen to me once with an unusually aggressive bristlenose. He did ultimately kill one of my fish.

Unfortunately, I'd get rid of the rubberlip. It will only get worse.

unsure.gif How big is your Rubberlip Ginger? The thing is,in general,Rubberlips/Bristlenoses are quite peaceful and shyer type of fish. The behavior signs this guy is showing, would definately have me concerned. If he's that brave to try and do it in the daylight, what will he do to them at night when the lights are off and the Goldies are sleeping? unsure.gif
What are you feeding him-does he get a fair amount to eat?Is he showing any other odd behavior/symptoms that something might be bothering him?
I personally wouldn't be able to trust him after seeing him actually "latching" on.Healthy goldies are able to get away, but if one of yours stresses or gets sick, that could be another story. sad.gif

That's pretty much what I'm thinking too Devs.
He is the smallest in the tank about 3 or 31/2 inches. But he definetly has always thought he is the boss of the tank! He is just really getting more aggresive these days and I didn't like it at all to see him attach to the fish. He gets plenty to eat. He comes out with the others to eat Pro-gold, spirulina, shrimp pellets, algae wafers, peas. I have tried zuchinni for him a few times but he doesn't eat it. blink.gif
I think he just has an attitude problem so I'm gonna separate him until I can see if the store will take him.
Thanks for confirming what I was thinking smile.gif
Now I'm off to do my water change and try to catch him...he's fast. I don't want to chance something happening to my babies.

I think that truthfully,it's in your Goldies best interests to remove the "Tough Guy".
It stinks, being that you've had him a year, but as Squeeker mentioned,it could get worse, and who wants to take the chance?
Hopefully, you have a nice pet store that will accept him,and maybe even offer you the chance to trade for another.
I had two Rubberlips I bought a while back, thing was they were a bit too small and my Goldies pretty much killed them overnight,so I haven't tried again with them. They are the same as Bristles though in behavior and such, and in general, most are not like your little guy.so I wouldn't let it deter you from trying again.I have a ton of Bristle's,who never bother anyone.Good luck & let me know what goes. wink.gif

Well I did get him out. It was a chase but I won. Jig.gif
I do hate to lose him after this long though sad.gif but my goldies health is more important. So I called a lfs and he said he would take him but would only give me a couple dollars or so towards something else because he's got more than enough plecs at the moment.
I do want to try a couple of bristlenoses so I just hope I don't get agressive ones like Squeeker's was. I know these plecs are usually not this way though so I'm willing to try.
Thanks Devs and Squeeker, I'll let y'all know how it goes. smile.gif
