My daughter just got a betta for her birthday and I am setting up a temporary home for him. I have an air pump, and I have attached it to an old air stone that used to be in a ugf. But the air flow is pretty strong for him and does not allow for adjustments. I do not have a regulator thing either. Is it ok to use a bulldog clip on the tubing to lessen the air flow? It just clips the tube so only a little air gets through. Will that ruin the air pump?

Thanks! :-)

So I can take it out!?! It will be so quiet! It needs no electrical outlets! I can put it anywhere! smilie_staub.gif

Btw, congrats on your new 140 pond! :-)

i don't know, i've always heard that while bettas don't need an air pump, they seem to thrive with it.

Hi, if you need to adjust the airflow it would be better either a small plastic clamp or a proper airflow adjustor valve. These are usually quite cheap from your lfs. I would avoid using something like a bulldog clip because be restricting the airflow in that way you cause a lot of back pressure on the pump which can either lower the lifespan of it or wear out the components more quickly smile.gif

I don't use an air pump with any of my bettas either. Since they have the ability to breathe air, they don't need the added oxygen in the tank like goldies do. They really like still waters best. I stuffed the filters on my betta tanks really good so the outflow barely moves the water. smile.gif
