Are these also known as Hillstream loaches? Butterfly plecs and coldwater plecos?

If so then i think you need bogwood/drift wood for them to help digest their food, greens like peas and cucumber and algae wafers. I guess they would eat fish food if they saw it but i wouldn't say it's a staple diet.

But to be honest i'm not 100% sure has i don't have any. i want some but don't have any.
They also like a nice places to hide and a bit of a current in the water but I think most filters can create that,

After a few months, mine developed a taste for progold pellets and feed on them when I drop them in for the goldfish. Mine also love different types of veggies, especially blanched zucchini. When they are first imported, they need algae in their diet, so it is best to put them in a tank with some algae.

He's in my 30 Gallon with my goldies. Seems to be doing fine. Went today and got 'Pelcostomus tablet food' and 'Algae Wafers'. I also have blood worms, pellets, flakes.

Are they known for escaping? My tank is open topped for the moment (hood should be here in a few days.)

I have bog wood in my tank so thats ok.

Little guy seems to be handing around my filter, guess it has the most algae. Also buzzing about the tank. biggrin.gif

i have a hong kong pleco and i have to say he is definitly my favorite pleco type fish... he is so tiny and so fast!!! he doesnt really eat much algae but like mentioned before, does seem to like progold!!! i love watching him jet around the tank... in regards to jumping... i wouldn't be worried about that... i have had to empty my tank a few times lately (moving and then had to replace it)... anyway, he has always been the last fish to come out of the tank... holding onto to dear life with less than an inch of water... i love these little fish.. i think i am going to go get one more today! smile.gif

Yes, they certainly are neat little fish and I find them fascinating, too!

My two large commons harassed my HK plecos to death - stole all their food even when feeding them at night with light off (they are supposedly nocturnal). But the goldies were right at the point of needing a bigger tank, so maybe just bad luck.

They are cool fish!
