~ Hey ~ I was wondering what a protein skimmer was and i was wondering if i need one for my tank!

Nope, those I believe are only for saltwater tanks. I'm not entirely sure what it does though

i believe protein skimmers are used to dissolve organic compounds from aquarium water, and improve the water quality. A kissy said, they are used for saltwater aquariums

You dont need one for your tank, sometimes they are used on freshwater.. but because marine fish are fed such a high protein diet there is excess protein in the water and a protein skimmer.. skims it out!

There quite simple really the protein sticks to air bubbles traveling up through it, while the water just flows back into the tank,
