Does anyone have any filter (or fliters) they would recommend for a 46 gallon tank?

Thanks in advance,

Any of the Marineland filters are great. I have a Penguin 350 on a 30 gallon. The Emporer 400 would be a very good choice for your 46 gallon. If you want a Canister, I used the Fluval line with no problems too on a 75 gallon years ago. I like to use a hang on filter in cunjunction with a Canister for extra media options when needed. It just makes it easier.

Is it better to get a couple of smaller filters or one large filter?

Also, how much does the Emporer 400 cost roughly?

If you go with an emporer you would probably be ok. It has 4 media cages that can house different media of your choice. I use 3 cartidges in my penguin that come with it (marineland right size c cartriges) and one cage that has biostars in it. I have another cage that can house anything in an emergency. I do however have an aquacler 50 running along side it. Some may say its overkill but I have had no problems. The main concern you need to focus is on is too much current. Too much and your fish will feel like they have run a marathon. Too little and you will have insuffient filtration. One emproer will more than likely be enough for your tank
