Hi there

Does anyone know how fast my Koi's and gold fish will grow?
Only a new pond ie one month and fish are new. Both koi and g/fs
are between 2-5inches long. G/Fs come from an existing pond so
are various sizes and ages.

How much growth do Kois do in a year? The pond is about
2 metres by 2.5metres and deepest point would be about 50cm.

Most koi reach at least 10 inches in their first year of life. My own koi grow at a rate of about an inch a month, and this is in a vastly overcrowded tank. Your guys are going to be visibly bigger every two weeks or so. O_o;; What you might try doing is setting up a shallow pan/basin/thing and measuring them each month. Write down the lengths for each fish, keeping track of special ones if you want.

My own koi get measured about every two weeks. The used to fit in a cup, back in september. Now I'm having to use the bowl for the rice cooker. and they're going to have outgrown that in another month or two!

Dose it scare the fish too much to measure them so much? I have some in a tank for the winter. They are so small now, I see a big change in just the ten days I had them. Will it be OK to measure them q two weeks.

I measured mine about a month after I first got them, when they were three inches long. With butterflies, you should put them in a shallow pan type thing filled with tank water, like a baking tin that is clean, and have a small ruler in the bottom. The fins on butterfly koi are very delicate, so I wouldn't suggest holding them in your hand to measure, as I do with my boys (see The Koi Boys in the picture area). But no, it doesn't really stress them out at all.
