Hi everyone!

Well my qt tank was all set up and ready to go today and amazingly I didn't have too much hw tonight, so instead of waiting til the weekend, I went and got my fishies today I brought home four black neon tetras and a honey gourami. They are all so small and fragile looking that its making me paranoid! While I was acclimating I was able to pick out the most dominant and the most submissive. The lil submissive guy is so tiny and scrawny, and he's like 1/5 the body mass of Ruby! He needed a name to help him along so the little blackie is named Tyson. The tetras did well while acclimating, but toward the end the gourami started not doing so well and was becoming listless. During the whole process the gourami must have tried to jump out of his bucket more than 25 times. A black neon even tried to jump once. I slowed down with changing the pH but he still didn't stop. I've got the top of the QT covered in tinfoil now

The tank that the black neons were in had some rasboras with ich. I thought it was really strange that only rasboras had it and none of the blackies did. I took extra precautions and qt'd the two species of fish in different buckets. I'm really worried that the stress of moving in will make them suseptible to the ich though. I've got a small bottle of Aquari-sol that says its good for curing and preventing ich and other parasites (and recomended when adding new fish). Do you think I should use it?

I was so excited today to get fishies again that I even wore my fishy patterened underwear I'm still very very nervous though, please cross every part of your body for me and my fish!

I got new fish today too LoL *pokes siggy* The same female that dropped a few fry around 2 weeks ago or so had some more o.0 There were 8 fry that I seen. I caught 2 in a net and put them in the breeder with the other 2. The others get to stay in the main tank. I just hope that at least 2 of the ones I caught will be female -_- If not, I have a home for extra males I end up with already, yay

I came home to a total of only four fish today, one of the black neons died while I was at school I remember seeing one of the kind of swimming lopsided a bit so it was probably that one. The 3 neons left are all active and hungry so hopefully that one didn't make it because it was too stressed. The dominant one is even more of a bully than Ruby, and even more of a pig. S/he ate his food along with pretty much everyone else's and his/her stomach suddenly became very enlarged. X_X He and the other chase Tyson (the tiny one) all over the tank constantly and I'm afraid he'll become subject to too much stress and die. Should I qt him separately in a bucket? I don't have any more extra tanks or filters. Which would be more stressful, being chased all over the tank (and hardly getting any food) or being on its own while its a little schooling fish? Egh...I was hoping getting more neons would cut down on Ruby's bullying but it doesn't look like it will end the way I want it to.

The gourami is more active now, but I'm really worried because he spends most of his time at the surface gulping air. I know gouramis are labyrinth fish, but my betta doesn't gulp that much at all....

I ALWAYS worried about bullying in my tanks, but ya know what, there's really not too much you can do about it; and if you're like me, it's just added stress on you that takes away from the enjoyment of the tank. unless they're really fighting hard, maybe add a few more hidey places, put flakes or whatever in seperate corners at the same time so they can eat in peace, and hope that helps.

Thanks Justin I'm trying my best so hopefully things will be smoother than with the goldfish. My dad thinks I pick out really boring fish lol. He's like pointing to koi, large orandas, saltwater fish, angels (or as my bf puts it, triangle fish) eels, neons etc. I always say no, too big, too sick, too aggressive, blah blah blah. I spend enough time deciding which types of fish I want so I'm hard enough to sway lol. I do want to have goldfish, koi and angels in the future for sure though

Iv'e had Gourmi's in the past, But I have never seen/heard of a Honey Gourami-Sounds pretty. You'll have to get some piccy's up to show off your new buddies.

Hey Della the fish undies are Tommy Hilfiger I've seen two different fish designs, both in string bikini cut. I had the ones with the angel fish too but that one broke...don't ask

The gourami's doing better now, s/he spends more time around the tank (but still likes the top corner best) and likes to pick at the roots of my fake plants.

Oh I almost forgot! Congrats to Atreyu on her baby guppies

LoL Kissy, thanks I plan on keeping the females and a friend and somebody my mom works with asked about getting some guppies so I'll raise them until I can sex them and then the males get divided and have new homes to go to

I'm sorry about your tetra! I hope the others do well! Aww, poor little Tyson! On of my little guppies is like that too.. My little runt male LoL The others chase him away from the females and are such brats to the poor little guy! At least he doesn't seem stressed and still eats well o.0

I'm down to 2 neons and the gourami I woke up this morning and saw onebelly up but trying to swim in spurts while chompy Ithe dominant one) was harrassing the poor thing. I put him and a plant into a bowl so he could go in peace, and we went pretty fast. He already had that cloudy look on his body. I knew something was up with him because he wasn't swimming around all yesterday and hid behind a plant instead. Now its just Chompy, Tyson and Flame (I know, so cliche, but it seemed to fit). I hope this is the end of all the deaths.

Edit: I checked the params in the tank to be sure the cycle hadn't messed up, and everything was fine. Anyone know what is going on?

Sorry about your other little guy *Hugs* I hope the rest make it okay! It does seem like it could have been the shipping for the fishies. Perhaps they arrived that day and some are stressed from the trip to the store and then to your house?

I can send you a guppy to make you feel better (LoL joking... I couldn't afford the shipping o.0) My other female surprised me and had her very first batch yesterday too LoL. I seen most get eaten, which is good I guess. Poor things. At least I have those homes for the males lined up still LoL

I dunno if its poor shipment or what but the quality of most fish I've seen around here from every store (especially the goldfish) are all pretty sickly. Hopefully the other three will do fine The gourami wasn't very active and was gulping a lot of air from the surface a couple days ago, but I think-and hope-that it was just stress of moving and acclimating to the big pH difference. Flame's more active now and not breathing so much from the surface, so I'm hoping he's alright. Chompy (named after my favorite brunch restaurant) is doing perfect and Tyson's hangin' in there. I've been slowly fattening him up a little and he's holding his own against the aggression. I see him swimming kind of tilted sometimes which worries me, but he's still active and doesn't hide so I'm still rooting for him

I'm glad no ich has showed up from the tanks at the store Hopefully there isn't anything not visible lurking either.
