Hi. I am thinking about getting a dwarf puffer fish. I have not done much research yet, but thought I would get a head start here. So here are a few questions..

What is the absolute minimum tank size I can have for one and what is the ideal?

They are brackish fish, right? What percent salt? Anything special about brackish water I should know?

What do they eat?

Do they like being in pairs or groups or is it ok if they are alone? Are there other fish that are compatible? Are they aggressive?

What pH do they prefer?

Any other info would be GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks a bunch! laugh.gif

"Dwarf Puffers, Things I need to know?"

That they are so cute! tongue.gif LoL I remember doing all sorts of research on them almost a year ago but I can't find them around here. I can't remember most of the info, but I hope this helps you a little!

5 gallon minimum for one Dwarf Puffer (somebody else may recommend otherwise, but most sites I found about them said 5 minimum).

They are freshwater fishies. I'm not sure if they will do well in Brakish or not.

I know they eat Brine Shrimp and Bloodworms, and I read they should be fed small snails now and then to keep their teeth down.

They are aggressive and I read that a larger tank is needed to keep more than one. I heard that a 10 gallon might be able to hold 2, but I'd check with somebody else on that. Don't keep them with fish that have long fins.

This Link has some more info about them. I forget where I put my other links about the puffers though. I can't seem to find them -_-

I haven't personally owned them, these are just bits of info I remember reading when I was researching them in the past. I thought somebody else on here had some but I forget who. I'm sure others will offer further advice about them. Good luck if you get some! They are such cute little guys and I really wish I could find some around here for sale -_-

Thanks for the info!

Everything would be fine for me besides the eating small snails part sad.gif I don't know if I could feed them to it, knowing me I'll get attached to the little snails on the ride home. Is there an alternative like dead baby snails or a teeth scratcher I could put in there laugh.gif ?

I'm glad they are freshwater and not brackish like I thought..less maintnence. I have a ten gallon cycling too. Hmm..

Your welcome smile.gif

LoL I have no idea about the snails. Like I said, I haven't had them before sad.gif I remember seeing a whole site devoted to Dwarf Puffers with a message board and such. Perhaps you could do a search on go0gle or something and you should get plenty of results packed full of extra info.

I'm sure somebody here will be able to help you out more than I can too LoL.

I thought the same about the water! I looked into getting one because I seen they were freshwater smile.gif Maybe someday Petco will stock some!

Good luck!!

i have kept dwarf puffers, and they sure are cute heartpump.gif
i fed mine live daphnia, which was a pain coz they wouldnt eat anything that wasnt moving, so i had tomake regular trips to go and get the daphnia.
They are very aggressive lil things, in the end, my male killed the other 2 (one being female - which is surprising as they are only supposed to attack other males)
My lil guy did fine by himself. smile.gif
