~ Hey ~ I was just wondering if anyone could please tell me what has happened to my female guppy becuase she was becoming bigger and showing all the signs of getting ready to give birth- increase in eating, hiding a lot, and staying in one spot.! She was doing all of that and i was wondering if anyone could tell me what happened becuase she did not give birth at all and she still has her gravid spot!

Thanks!

Any idea how old she is, even just a guess would do smile.gif If you had no other male guppies in the tank, she might not be pregnant. If the molly you have with her is a male, it could be possible. Might have been possible with the platies also, but I'm not sure if guppies and platies will breed.

She could just be growing still. Just because there's a gravid spot, it doesn't mean she's pregnant. I heard some females just have them constantly, pregnant or not.

Those signs are just a guideline too. Just because they show those signs doesn't mean they actually are almost ready to give birth. It's just one of those things you notice that means it could be almost time.... It drove me insane with my first pregnant guppy waiting for it to happen, but it did eventually and it's just one of those things you need to keep a close watch on. Every fish is different so yours might just like to hide out in one spot and eat. Just keep a close eye on her smile.gif

Heh, if she really was pregnant, perhaps she already had the fry and just hasn't lost her shape tongue.gif That happend to me under 2 weeks ago. I didn't know one of my females was ready until I found a baby staring at me while I did a water change LoL. The female was still just as large, gravid spot just as dark and there were no signs either had even had any fry o.0

ok well i'm going to ramble off some stuff here and someone correct me if i'm wrong cause i very well can be, but what i understand from what i read here and there is that all female guppies have gravid spots, some are black, some are peachy/pinkish, and some clearish. so just cause you see a black spot doesn't automatically mean she is pregnant. my last female guppy i bought, has a really black gravid spot she stayed just as black even after she had her fry. my other females are the peachy/pinkish color.

if your guppy has never been around a male guppy chances are she's not pregnant. live bearers can mix with each other, but it mostly goes by their genus not all will mix. like platies will mix with sword tails and guppies will mix with endlers cause they are very closely related.

i don't think platies and guppies mix cause they are a different genus, but mollies and guppies sometimes breed together, but it is rare. in my own tank with guppies and platies, my males show no interest in the platies at all.

also i think you have her in a one gal kritter creeper? that's not much space and the babies will probably get found and eatten quickly. unless you watch her 24/7 you might not get the fry in time. in my 29 gal tank, i have 6 female guppies some of them recently gave birth, this go around i have not found one fry. so they must have all gotten eatten. so if she did have babies they might have been eatten.

i found a home for my 9 platies so i know have in my ten gallon:

the female guppy
1 black molly - female
1 pink catfish

1 golden inca snail!

Thats is what is in the 10 gallon at the moment and the black molly stays in a corner by the filter!

So she really has the whole 10 gallons to her self becuase she is the only one who swims around in and by the plants and things like that!

Thanks!
She has the pinkish but there are little black dots and i can see the bodies but they are jsut not coming out for some reason! Could it be that i am always watching her/ Does she need some privacy!

Thanks!

do you remember how long have you had her seperated in the 1 gal dean?

bloating, hiding a lot, not swimming around? you might be dealing with a stressed out livebearer (from being isolated and w.q. issues) rather than a pregnant one.

she was only in there for about a day or so!

*pokes siggy* I caught my guppy giving birth a few hours ago... This same guppy had a few fry around 2 weeks ago too though o.0 (Only 2 that I seen, but she still had them!). LoL I may not have 10 fry before long though... I currently have 4 in my breeder and the others I left in the tank.. Some might make it, but I guess I'll have to wait and find out...

If your guppy is really pregnant, she'll have them eventually... She may just be trying to surprise you, like mine just did to me tongue.gif Just give it time, and keep an eye on her. In the meantime, I'd move her back to your main tank so she has the room to swim. She might get stressed out in that small container.

she has been in the main tank and i will watch her!

i would suggest you just watch her carefully Dean... if you see her getting 'bigger' maybe then move her...

okay i will keep doing that as i have been watching her closely and things like that!

all the water things are good
