Hmmmm, goldies loooove algea wafers, bloodworms, baby shrimp, many like bits of orange, peas, and other cooked, soft veggies. Just don't give your fish tubifex worms, they are known to carry sporizoan (sp?) paracites that'll make your fish sick. They can also have romaine lettuce although mine will never eat it. They can have eggs, cucumbers, eathworms, insect larvae, grapes and spinach. You'll just have to try some of these out and see what your goldies like. Mine won't touch grapes or any green leafy thing, or cukes. I haven't tried giving them worms.

You wouldn't think fish would be so picky about their treats, but they are! My fish like peas, and oranges, but they won't eat lemons [citrus fruits though, y'know?]. They like plankton [kind of like mini-shrimp], but they don't get those very often, because I have a hard time soaking them, [to reduce SBD-type problems]. I've never tried cucumber, but the top parts of broccoli is also a favorite.

It really just depends. I once gave my fish some banana bread crumbs [very small -- this was also before I discovered the fish board], and one of the fish turned into such a hog, they've never had anything banana-related since!

Treats are good, but nothing anything that inspires meanness. Sometimes they just like stuff too much, I guess.

My goldies go absolutely krazy.gif CRAZY krazy.gif for oranges. Same with algae wafers -- although I put them in the tank for my snails and not for them, but they end up eating them all up anyways. My guys enjoy bloodworms too.

I didnt know they could have eggs..I wouldnt give them the yolk. That will dissolve in water in seconds. I didnt know the white had much nutrition in it.

My fish dont like grapes or cucumber either.

They love bloodworms, peas, and oranges the best. smile.gif

EDIT: oh and algae wafers. lol. They attack those things

I gave mine one brussle sprout between 4 fish they ate it all in a day rolled it round the bottom of the tank munching away. Didnt seem to do them any harm. was a frozen one I defrosted it before I threw it in they also like peas.
fugly
Mine like algal wafers, go mad for tubifex cubes (I soak them til they're squishy and then swirl them in the water), and enjoy peas if chopped finely.

They also like cabbage and salad leaves; I shred the leaves but keep them on the stem, and dangle them in the water on a hook. The other day I caught my ryukin and telescope playing hide and seek through the leaves. Cute! They also spread fragments of leaf all over the tank and clog up the filter...not so cute.

hmmmmm.....might try the wafers..............of course the algae ones........dont like the sound of feeding them meat? but fish eating fish lol.....ill have a look around................i seem to be using these dots alot.....?.......lol biggrin.gif

Hey, my fish don't eat peas...I stuck a whole pea in there and they won't eat it, it jsut seems to sink, my fish don't like oranges much... ignore.gif
gia_ekdahl
mmmm...try squeezing out the insides next time. Dont give them the shell, that would make it hard for them to eat it I think...
GoldieKat
How do you get them to try new things? Spike eats peas (once I split them and took the skin off) but won't eat anything leafy - except my plants lol!

I don't have a veggie clip - look like i need to get myself one - But might try her with orange laters.

She likes potato, peas and spirulina pellets but turns her nose up at most other things!

Well, from what Ive heard most goldies dont like the leafy stuff like lettuce and such. I know mine dont either.

If you want them to try something new, you might be able to trick them by serving it with a few pellets of their normal food. They already know that the pellets are food, but they may not realize that the cucumber in the tank is....maybe in their feeding frenzy they would accidentally taste the new treats and realize its there that way..if they just ignore it no matter what then they just dont like it.

My telescopes are always nibbling my snailies romaine when Im not looking! laugh.gif
