I would like some info on some basic things in order to set up a tropical tank.

1) what would be the ideal minimum tank size in terms of US Gallons?

2) What would be the ideal beginner fish for a tropical tank?

sandy
Ideal starter fish are livebearers but they reproduce so not really a good idea.
Next would be fish like Danios and you get lots of different types now. Most tetras are forgiving but not neons. You could try danios, glowlights and some corydoras catfish in a 15 gallon.
A lot of peole keep tropicals in 10 gallons but fish need to exercise and swim so personally speaking 15 should be your minimum, though others will say otherwise. smile.gif

i agree, a 15 upwards would be great smile.gif

Yes I'm one of those with a 10 gallon, and I agree that a 15 gallon is probably better to start with. A 10 gallon limits your choices a lot, and the bigger the tank, the more forgiving it is with less than perfect water quality.

yes! kissy is right! A ten gallon limits your choices but if that is all you can afford then go for becuase that is all i could afford and well i am still trying to love and care for my fish!

Thanks!
