Ok everyone, get out those pictures! We've gotten the go ahead for another tropical fish photo competition.
Just like last time, this competition is just for fun, and there will be no prizes awarded other than the satisfaction of having everyone admire your fish.
Just a few rules: you must be an active member of this board, it must be your fish, and only one submission will be accepted from each user.
Photos will be accepted, submitted directly into this post with the type of fish in the reply, until Saturday, March 11th; to give everyone time to get their best pic. Voting will then start Sunday, March 12th; in heats if necessary.

to everyone! And thanks to Koko, and all the KGW Mods and Helpers.

Can I submit bettas?
balashark
Feb 25 2006, 07:27 PM
hmm, good question. they are tropical fish, so i would think yes. but there's also already a betta competition.
personally i guess if it's the only type of tropical fish you have, then you should be able to submit it for voting. but i guess we'll leave it up to sandy and the mods, see what they think 'bout it.
also, i'm working on a different kind of voting that would hopefully eliminate the need for heats. i'm gonna make a poll using html and another website to where all the pics will be entered into one voting session, so that the fish with the most votes wins, regardless of what heat it would happen to get put into. it'll still be in a post here on the board, you just click which pic you like the best. it's all anonymous, and you'll still be able to see running totals just like the polls here. i've got it pretty much done, so if there are no objections to doing it that way...

I dont want to be a party pooper but bettas have their own competition and it wouldnt seem right if a betta won. Dont you have a plec Riz that you could enter or white cloud minnows?

Feb 26 2006, 03:57 AM
oo! ill get mine up as soon as im off the mac
balashark
Feb 26 2006, 05:59 AM
thanks sandy. yea, after i got off last night i was thinking maybe we could seperate betta pics from the rest (since they have their own comp) and vote on them seperately, but then i realized koko already has that set up.

Feb 26 2006, 06:19 AM
Ahhhh plecs

course I got them! Thx Sands!
Oh I almost forgot my panda cories

they should be ok I think
sandy
Feb 26 2006, 07:27 AM
Corys welcome too, in fact anything other than goldfish and bettas, even Marine fish
balashark
Feb 26 2006, 07:51 AM
maybe we could set up a different competition for the marine fish. i don't know if most tropical fish could compete w/ the colors and diversity of marine fish.
i could set that one up to, again if no one over there wants to do it. just use the same thing i'm gonna use for the voting over here. what do ya think sandy? same w/ snails and crustaceans, i think it's too different.
sandy
Feb 26 2006, 07:58 AM
If you get any one sending pics of marines then see how that goes as you would need at least 4 pics to make it worthwhile and maybe allow people to enter a fish from a marine tank and one from a tropical. Same with a snail comp but maybe do that a couple of months after this one as a lot of people have snails of one type or another.
balashark
Feb 26 2006, 08:12 AM
yea, that's what i was thinkin, maybe stagger them, do the snail one a little later to keep the fun going

so i'll make a post in the marine section see if anyone there is interested in participating in our just for fun competition? if there's enough interest, make it so the voting for the marine starts as this one's ending or something.
sandy
Feb 26 2006, 08:19 AM
Ok, see how it goes.

use a photo hosting site such as www.photobucket.com and then from their browse your computer until you find the pic you want then upload it. Once done, you right click to copy the bottom tag and then in a post here you left click it to paste.

And I guess I'll take a picture and add it. But promise me... if you get enough entries I'd rather sit out and let someone else take the prize and I'll go into the next contest.

Post in the chatterbox as well Justin, as most non tropical keepers that do have plecs or cory might not look in this section but go to chatterbox.

I am going to enter a picture, but I can't seem to get photobucket to work. I will try again tomorrow
I don't have many tropicals, certainly not colourful ones, but I think my little dojo is a cutie
touchofsky
Mar 5 2006, 11:36 AM
Would a dojo be applicable, though? I guess he isn't truly a tropical
touchofsky
Mar 5 2006, 12:27 PM
I just read the post in "compatible fish" and see that dojos are acceptable, so here is my picture. This is a picture of Pussywillow, my dojo loach

Hey Justin, is the deadline saturday night or morning? I was looking for the camera and I even called my mom at work to ask where it was she came home and looked around, and then came to the conclusion she left it in her desk at wor

They are leaving for their ski trip tomorrow so they will get the camera for the trip, but on the way to the airport...My dad's camera was too complicated too. My grandma is going to come babysit us for the entire time and I think she's got a digital camera, so maybe I can get a decent photo taken and loaded by tomorrow night? Please?

well, the deadline was gonna be last night at midnight, but my mom came up yesterday and stayed the night, so i didn't get a chance to set up the voting thing.
so if anyone has any pics on their computer they'd like to enter last minute, we'll say til tonight; i'll put 'em in a voting thing later tonight and voting can start tomorrow.

balashark
Mar 12 2006, 07:55 AM
i'm gonna say yes. any aquatic animal that can thrive in warm waters that can't be entered into one of koko's competitions or one that i'm going to run later (marine or crustacean).
