Full Version: Should I Fast My Fish?

My fish heartpump.gif finished their 14 day course of Metr-Med yesterday.

I have not fed them this morning yet. Should fast them for a day and start with their peas tomorrow and Progold on Sunday or just start with the Progold today. I have not seen alot of poop in the tank, but then I never do as I think my filters get it before I see it. But with the Metro-Med being a harder food, even though I soaked it for at least 1/2 hour before feeding, I did not know if the fish had problems with constipation after being on it.

I am assuming that your fish had some equilibrium problems and that the MetroMed food was to help cure that, correct?

I am also assuming that it did the job, correct?

Is your fish behaving normally - swimming gracefully and all?

If it is, you can probably resume normal feeding. I think that if the fish was having floating problems, I would check to make sure the nitates are low, low, low, and give a day or two of peas or greens. When you see the bright green poo come through, go ahead and include ProGold into the regiment. FAsting is probably not necessary, unless the problem reoccurs.

I hope all is well and stays that way for you! smile.gif

daryl, the fish were on Metro-Med because of a problem that I had with Bubba, if you recall, I don't know if you saw the thread, but she had a couple bubble blisters appear a couple of days after she was shipped to me.

I had to put Spanky in with my other fish, because I was not sure if she had disease or injury from shipping, as she showed no other symtoms and he was shipped with her. I felt that because he was shipped with Bubba and we did not really know what was wrong , I went ahead and started him as well on Metro-Med.Also, because he was added to my tank with other fish I started them on Metro-Med.

Everyone looks fantastic, smile.gif but they did before Metro-Med.

My Nitrates 20.

Its hard to deal with a problem when your fish seem perfect!

But it boils down to them being on Metro-Med because Bubba had those three bubble blisters.(?????)

Ok, got it. Now I remember! smile.gif

I am glad to hear that all is well and those blister things are gone.!!!!! Yippee!!!! smilie_staub.gif

As far as feeding then, everything is GREAT! Go for feeding in any fashion you think is good - peas, Progold, gel, etc. The fish will love you for it!

I am becoming a fan of this stuff called "JumpStart" from Goldfish Connection. It seems to help repopulate the intestines of a fish that has been on antibiotics with beneficial bacteria as well as ease them back to the food and fatten them up better after a long or rough bout with disease/parasites.

But 14 days is not a big deal and I bet those little buggers of yours will eat like ....well, goldfish!

I am soooo happy that all is well in your tanks. That is the best feeling, huh? biggrin.gif

Thanks daryl! smile.gif It is a wonderful feeling when you know your fish are doing well and are healthy. We try so hard to keep them that way! rolleyes.gif

I'm hoping to get Bubba into my 80 gal tank next week. She has been alone for such along time. She misses her Spanky. I lowered her heater very slowly so she is now in an unheated tank. She looks so good, although she always did except for the blisters, which were very small, and never really seemed to bother her. More me, I think.

I don't know if you read my thread yesterday about the two fish I had shipped from an ebay seller and they were in very poor condition upon arrival yesterday. They look a bit perkier this morning. The seller did call me last night and assured me they would be fine. I don't know if they were shipped like this or if they had a rough shipping experience. But they are in very good water, so hopefully they will be O.K. with some TLC!

I really hope so for you and the fishies! I hate shipping - I always feel so.... almost sick, when I am expecting something. Iworry soooo much. I know how little care is taken with packages.....

I never cease to be amazed when the fish arrive alive at all!

I am dreading this coming week when my new fish will be shipped.....

Daryl, So you got Sterling? smile.gif

smile.gif daryl, I meant to mention Sterling! I know you must be so excited but at the same time dreading the shipping part.

I'm sure he will be fine as you bought him from a respectable place and I'm sure they know how to ship.

Are you all set for him? Its like waiting for the new "baby" to arrive. I can't wait for your annoucement that he made it safe and sound.

Good luck, and we can't wait for pics.
