Desiree
hello everyone... well, my special order snail FINALLY came in today. newfish.gif i picked him up tonight and to no suprise, he hasn't moved an inch in the last hour... ignore.gif moral of the story... snails are like pots and a watched snail never moves... rofl3.gif anyway, i will post a picture of him later... i think i will name him either goliath or leviathan... since he is a bit monstrous at about a 3-4 inch diameter... smile.gif
Devs
biggrin.gif Congrats on your new snail. It's kind of normal for them to just sit there when first being introduced to the tank.Good luck with him. You'll have to post a pic. biggrin.gif

Aww when he's settle in he'll move. Snails are pretty fast movers too! Hope you'll grace us with some photos of your new jumbo snail biggrin.gif
Desiree
he sure settled in fast!!!! i went to the store and by the time i got home he was all the way across the tank... my friend was over and we literally just sat there watching him all night... i renamed him fu... because when his head is out of his shell his antenna (?) look like a fu manchu mustache like in the old samarai movies... rofl3.gif anyway, yes, i will post pictures soon! smile.gif

blink.gif He looks huge! laugh.gif You'll have to put him against something to compare his size so we really know just how big he is. laugh.gif
Lady_D
Is he a Cana? Cutie!
If he is in a goldfish tank, watch out for him. I have had goldfish nip at applesnail antenna and bite hunks out of their feet... sad.gif

i have had platies nip at the snail and then the snail closes up realy fast!

Thanks!
Desiree
devs- here is a picture of him in comparison to my tank... i know its blurry but i think it will give an idea of his size. the fish in the picture is my lionhead, pedro who is about 6 inches long... hope that helps!!! smile.gif

oh and so far so good... i think the fish are a little intimidated by him so i don't think they will be nipping at him, but i will definitly keep an eye on him... smile.gif

biggrin.gif He looks big enough as to where the goldies will probably leave him alone.I just love the bigger snails and wish I had more space for them. laugh.gif
Desiree
devs- what kind of snail do you think fu is??? smile.gif
020292
something big, he looks like a brigs or a ramshorn!

good luck with finding
Desiree
well... i have had ramshorn snails in the past... but i don't think that is what he is... i think their sides are flatter than fu's... he has more of a spire coming out on the side... i agree... i think he may be a brigs... thanks!!! smile.gif
Pixiefish
Hey Desiree! Congrats on your giant snail.
It's hard to see the spiral from the angle of the pic but I'd say it's most likely a Cana - the Brigs don't tend to get much bigger than @ 2 inches. Also, check the angle of the sutures - the Brigs go up in a 90 degree step whereas the Canas have a rounder shape and look more like a bun. Hopefully Devs will give an expert opinion.....
I'd love a Cana but as I have a planted tank it would look like a bomb site in hours.

He looks huge!! Beautiful!

Pardon me for going... offtopic.gif for a moment but...what are the eggs that some of you have in your signitures that say..."this egg will hatch" with a date. Are you going to self destruct?!! biggrin.gif

Aw FU is GREAT Desiree smile.gif

He's a BIG BOY-That's for sure. I am with Dev's I love the bigger snail's I have one in my tank that is absouletly GIANT! My big boy Gary is actually from Dev's daughter. smile.gif

I am going with Brig also-Congrat's!! He's wonderful. Have fun watching him, I get a kick outta watching my buggers. laugh.gif
Devs
rolleyes.gif He definately does NOT look like a Brig,or a Ramshorn for sure.
I am far from the expert on snail species, but I do know that. Check out Applesnail. (Under Species) They have a pic that shows the shapes of the shells so that you can compare yours.I would guess by the size that it's at least a Cana, possibly Insularum, but as I said, you need to look on the bottom shape of his shell.Donya,is actually the Snailee expert when it comes to identifying them. smile.gif
Desiree
thanks devs!!!!! smile.gif i have been on applesnail.net... and i think he may be a pomacea haustrum... his body is kinda spotted as mentioned on that site...

anyway, here is a clearer picture of him compared to my lionhead... pedro, who i am thinking of renaming sumo because he kinda looks like one to me... it seems like wherever fu is, my lionhead has to swim over and visit him... i think they are becoming friends!!! laugh.gif
