Do you have a specific feeding regimen? I usually feed before I go to work & again when I get home. I read that some people only feed once a day & some skip a day here & there. What do you do? unsure.gif

They all seem to need a little bit different things. Fish that have floating problems get more greens - or gel food. Fish that are tiny get more PRoGold. Fish that are being prepped for show get up to 4 meals a day of varied foods. Red fish get one set of foods, white another. Some tanks are more heavily stocked, and they need smaller feedings, other tanks have big monsters who need large pellets twice a day.

When a fish is too big for a show category, it is fed less.....or if a fish is not feeling well, it goes to peas or gel only.

I rarely fast a fish - unless there is definate evidence of constipation.

I guess if I had to suggest anything - it is to see what your fish will eat and how they respond to what they eat. If they handle two large meals a day and you are not vacumning out large globs of wasted food from the tank, then feed them that way. If they need smaller amounts perhaps more often, try that. If they are not growing - pump the calories and protien. If they are floatly, boost the greens - multiple times with small amounts...... REad each fish, each tank.....they are all different.

I feed them twice a day. When I get up in the morning and when I come home from work. I go through different varieties. Flakes, pellets, peas, green beans, freezed dried krills, frozen bloodworms, frozen mysis shrimp, etc etc.

I used to feed them freeze dried tubifex but stopped due to the thread on Kokos.
Another thing, I used to feed them live brine shrimps which they loved but I have been hesitant since my oranda Sash got dropsy. I am not sure of the cause of the dropsy but I have some suspicion that it may have been the live brine shrimps that was carrying some bacteria. Sash recovered fullly from the dropsy thanks to the advice from Kokos and Metro-Med and is very healthy and happy.

Ok! Thanks I was reading a saw where someone said they fed like 3 times PER WEEK!! I thought good grief I would be WAY over feeding! But I am pretty much alined with ya'll and that's good enough for me!!

I feed in the morning & again when I get home from work. I almost always put in some flakes, then some of the kinds that sink ( I think it gives them a prize for during all that poking around!! ) Occasionally I toss in an algae wafer! My system is a pinch 'o this & a pinch o' that. But just what they can finish off with out really leaving a mess! laugh.gif

i feed mine just once or twice a day. I feed two kinds of staple food. One is very high in proein the other one is about 25% protein content. I feed them either depending on the temperature. if its cold, i give the lower protein content food. I give them treats every now and then. peas, lettuce, daphnia and bloodworm. less feeding is better than over feeding. target is feed them atleast 60 to 70% of what they actually need.

Carol's answer was so good it's hard not to repeat that advice! I feed mine once a day but its a big feed- top floating food for my pearlscale as he wants it there- and bottom sinking pellets for the rest. Also mix gel food and a variety of other kinds and peas twice a week as a second feed/treat. heartpump.gif

hiya,

Well i feed my fish before i leave the house in the morning at eight, just normal flakes and then i feed at 5 at night. I feed the same time everyday as they certainly get to know when feeding times are, I fed them peas tonight for the first time! Yum Yum! biggrin.gif

I feed my Dart (common) little pinches often. He has flakes, crisps, loves dried baby shrimp, gets an algea waffer occassionally, He is about 4 inches right now. So I only give him little bits but do it often. When he gets bigger I want to start feeding him some of the better pellets and thanks from reading the posts I see I can give him grapes and such. biggrin.gif

Here's what I do...

I feed them regular flake food when I get up and right before I go to bed five days a week. Then I fast them one day to help 'clean out their system' so they don't get constipated or antyhing. The day after their fast I feed them fresh fruits and veggies. Once a month I give them bloodworms.

Wah only once a month? Once a week is much better. Besides, the frozen bloodworm cubes will be expired if u only feed once a month blink.gif
