How hard is it to take care of a fancy guppy?
What size tank?
How many can I put in that size tank?
Can anyone give me all the facts?

Hi

smile.gif

Guppies need to be kept in groups really and if you dont want them to breed then you should have at least 5 males or 4 females. You need a fair sized tank but you can get away with 10 gallons with a decent filter on it and then you can have 8 males and 6 females as they are bigger than the males..

yeah and if you want to breed you need to keep a breeder box and then you want 2 females and 1 male, that is called a trio!

Thanks!

The temp you need is 82-84 degress farehnhit!

Thanks! Hope i was some help!

Oh ok
I was just wondering beacause if you did I was wondering why you didn't have a medal.

82-84 is way to warm, its better to have them around 74-78. If you're raising babies then a little warmer is better to make them grow faster. The warmer the temp the shorter their life span.

We would want to raise babies we don't have the room.

I think the breeding medal is only for goldfish breeders

Only buy males, then you can guarantee you wont have pregnant females coming in. I agree too that you dont need such a high temperature for them.

Thanks guys!!

I keep guppies, but they aren't the fancy types. Mine are in a 10 gallon that's kept around 75-78 F.

For them to stay healthy and active a higher ph is better. My ph is 7.0 and they are doing fine but they prefer it around 7.8 or so smile.gif

Don't keep them with fish that will nip their fins (if you get the long-finned guppies) sad.gif I heard they should not be kept with bettas either.

As everybody else said, it's best to get males if you don't want babies. The last female I bought was pregnant and I didn't know it until I seen the fry swimming! LoL

Good luck!
