~ Hey ~ I was wondering if any knew how much water this large glass reptile aquarium would hold becuase it is on freecycle and i mige be getting it:
18 x 17 x 36
Thank!
According to the calculator on the web it can hold 47.888 something gallons!
Is that true!
What size hood and light and filter would i need if i get this!
THanks!

yes, the calculator's right, just over 47 gallons.
if you multiply the length, width, and height (in inches), then divide that number by 231 (the number of cubic inches in 1 gallon), then you get the volume of the container in gallons.
you would need a hood that is (i'm assuming that you have the measurements in the wrong order, and that this aquarium isn't 3 feet tall) 36 inches in length, same with the light. i'm pretty sure this is a standard size, so you could probably find it at a good fish store.

well, if the lenth of the tank is 36 inches, then the lid and hood needs to be 36 inches. the wattage has nothing to do w/ the length of the bulb. if you buy a hood, it probably will come with a bulb the correct length, the only reason to change that bulb for a different wattage would be if you were planting your aquarium.

save yourself some time, nnnnnn doesn't sell hoods last time i checked. petco does i'm pretty sure, but you'd have better luck finding a good price at an independent shop probably.
how much are they asking for the tank?

WallyWorld sells some hoods out here, but they are a bit overpriced. You can get them cheaper and a larger selection at a place like Petco

Petco out here has a decent selection of hoods and covers to choose from.
