Hey everyone has anybody had problems keeping guppies alive my daughter is getting upsey that her guppies keep dying started with 7 in a 10 then one then 3 then all with in a couple of days so we broke tank down started all over water ph 6.7 ammo 0 nitrate 0 nitrite 0 temp about 78 ad 4 guppies 1 by 1 all dead,back to store with water sample all good gave her new guppies now all but 2 dead.never seen it before all of the other tanks salt fresh and brackish in the house all fine no problems maybe i 'm no good at keeping guppies

Have you cycled the tank as the ntrates are at 0? The ph is low for guppies as they like a more alkaline and harder water and some added salt.

YES tank is cycled twice but thank you about hardness i'll add little bit more salt this time

How exactly did you cycle it? What do you mean you cycled it twice? A cycled tank should have nitrates...
dean what are you referring to? I don't see any dividers?

i was referring to the thing with the pink lid i am wanting to gt maybe 3 of those and use them to seperate my mlaes and females that i have kow!

the pink thing is a critter carrier petsmart has them,put a sponge filter in it for the babies there is a little hole in top corner for air line.1st time cycled with feeder guppies when started nitrates sky high let it set for few weeks everything leveled off 2nd time i took my qt tank put all water and filter in her tank waited few wekks all good,i use aqurium pharmacutical liquid master test kit kit goes fromm 0 ppm to 0.5 ppm color in the tube is more yellow than orange

good luck with that i,ve seen some that where just as big as a 10 gallon tank.hers used to be for her hermit crabs cleaned it up. doing water changes is always fun with babies

Monkeyknuckles, your sedond method most likely did not work. It was good to add the filter and water, but by waiting a couple weeks did you mean you let it sit without the fish in it? If you did, the bacteria probably starved off because they need a continuous source of ammonia. 0ppm of nitrate sounds strange. Are you sure its nitrate you tested? The test card goes from 0, 5, 10, 20, 40, 80, 160; with zero being very pure yellow with no orange at all. Nitrate shouldn't be zero or that close to zero if ammonia and nitrite are at zero in a cycled tank.
Something in the first method confused me too...You said you had high nitrates so you just did nothing and they went away? Nitrates don't go down unless you do waterchanges or have a heavilly planted tank.
