Do they HAVE to have driftwood?
I really want one or two (I have to call around here to see if anyone has any, they don't always) but I'm not sure I really want driftwood in my tank. (does it mess up the ph too much? I wouldn't want to cause problems)
I would put in a small piece though if they really need it. Or if I give them zuchinni and good foods would that be just as good?
Any advice for them is welcome.....

It is said that bristles chew on the wood to get a substance called lignin and that helps with their digestion. The bristles love their driftwood & I personally wouldn't have any bristles if i don't have any driftwood.

yep, you do need driftwood. I've got a chunk for my bristlenose and the ph has been fine.

smile.gif I had a hard time finding a piece of driftwood for my Bristlenose.

The lfs chains never had it in. Finally I found some at a lfs that was not a chain. As a matter of fact they had alot, in different sizes. So maybe if you have those kind of places you might try them.

Good luck, also I know you can mail order driftwood, but it is heavy. smile.gif

I have a pretty nice sized piece in a 30gal. tank.It takes my ph anywhere from 6.8-7,down to 6.8-6.6. To make up for that,I keep crushed Oyster shells in my filter.Between that and the water changes,it seems to stay okay.

Ok thanks y'all! I'm still trying to find some bristlenose plecs too. I went to one store today that only had larger ones for $24 a piece....I don't think so.....another store I called said they should be getting some in tomorrow so I may go in a day or 2 and hope the fish don't get too stressed from all the moving blink.gif . I will ask them about getting some driftwood too. smile.gif

Are driftwoods a must for rubbernose plecos also?
