Here's pics of my new small tank. It's called a Qualdia aqross and comes with light strips in the lid and 2 filter systems (undergravel and overhead) all on one plug!!! Well theres also a plug that connects the main plug to the lights inside the lid but that socket is built in so in effect it is one plug. I think it's clever. smile.gif

Sweet! I like it! Is that a Nano Cube?!?! What size is it?
Did you fill it up yet? Whatcha gonna put in there?
jen626
How many gallons is it? It's hard to tell from the pics, but it looks neat!

smile.gif Interesting, are you doing up a Tropical tank?
Trinket

It was kind of an impulse buy - I think its 12 gallon (working out from the cms they do here). Should do for a QT tank or my 2 midget siamese dolls (2cm each). I just thought it was good with just the one plug as we have a shortage of sockets here!!! smile.gif

Oh Devs I think I posted same time. A tropical -wow- I'm not that experienced yet.. sad.gif . One day that would be wonderful...did you notice I can post pics now!!!! rofl3.gif biggrin.gif

Im pretty sure that I've heard of other peoples siamese dolls growing to full size. I've also heard that the name reffers to an albino goldfish I think.

oooooh you could do a nano reef.. with a bit of ajustment those tanks are great for them.. i want one
sandy
Tropical tanks are easier than goldfish tanks.

Come to the dark side yeah.gif
Devs
rolleyes.gif Oh there you go again Sands........ You are going back to having both, remember? yeah.gif laugh.gif

I just don't feel brave enough for an adventure into the tropics..I only started from scratch again with goldies 6 months ago...but yes the square shape would look nice for a mini reef must say.

Also might be nice to make a mini world for my 2 tinies heartpump.gif .

Expect I'll think about it all a while... coffee.gif

Oooooo, mini reef, that would be so cool! You should do it! Jig.gif

I think everyone is referring to freshwater tropicals as a good candidate for your new tank. Tetras, danios, loaches and the like.

You know what a REALLY neat freshwater tropical fish is? Killie fish! They look like sort of a cross between bettas and guppies. They are extrememly hardy and breed easily. If one was to get into breeding, Killiefish are a great starter in that their eggs are almost indestructible and their colorations are very vivid. http://www.wheresoursquirrel.com/public_ht...ages/Killie.jpg

Anyway, a few killiefish and some amano shrimp http://brianstropicals.com/Cherryshrimp.jpg would make an excellent addition to a 12 gallon tank such as your new one. wink.gif

by the way, that tank looks like it would be a very good candidate for a reef tank as well. But saltwater is a little different than freshwater. Its best to do some reading before attempting saltwater........

Good luck! biggrin.gif

biggrin.gif Killiefish are really cool Paul.I almost had some eggs sent to me,but decided to wait until Spring or so.
As for the Salt water, they sure are awesome, but a lot more complicated and costly for the beginner's to get involved with. smile.gif

Thanks all. Lots to think about. I like the idea of easy breeding- robust eggs- the killies are cute- do they come in diff colors other than the yellow pictured? Suppose they do... nice to have something colorful perhaps. heh.gif
OrandaBeauty
they are pretty nice,i saw one at the pet store and the acrylic was purple, which made the water so nice!
vmlola
smile.gif That is a very neat looking tank! If it is around 12 gal, it would make a cool tropical tank! exactly.gif

Tinkokeshi
wow... haha i also like the whole one plug part. sometimes it gets to be a hassle having a plug for the lights, a plug or two for the filters, and a plug for air pump... etc. wow... how convenient! biggrin.gif

keep us updated on what you do with your new tank! hehe and of course... picture updates are always good. laugh.gif

i think those killifish are good lookin' too. biggrin.gif
Graham
Oh! I have a 12g killifish tank! I just adore them heartpump.gif ! I have Fundulopanchax Gardneri killifish (they originate in W. Africa) - aka Clausen's Steel-Blue.
Here is a picture:

There are many different kinds - my fish encylcopaedia lists 20 alone! But, there are even more varieties... some require brackish water and some can tolerate freshwater (F. Gardneri) so it is important to checkl out the requirements for different kinds of killifish first. SOme are very easy to care and others and are very hard! A good place to find out more about them is at the American killisfish Association:

http://aka.org/modules/tinycontent3/
There is a Beginners Guide, a forum (although not very busy, sadly), lots great links, and lists of events and chapter meetings if you want some fish or eggs.

I purposefully chose killis becuase I had never really had tropical fish before but I also did not want Danios or Tetras, which are nice fish but I wanted something different! yeah.gif These guys are a lot of fun and I am really happy with my chioce as they have endured several of my inexperienced mistakes! ignore.gif

There was a great story somewhere of a guy breeding them in his basement and they did better in a puddle on the floor than in the tank?!
Trinket
They're beautiful Graham, really very cute and colorful. They look a lot like mini bettas don't they? They also sound hardy which is always good. How many do you have/can U have in a 12g? smile.gif

ooooooooooh keep us posted! heartpump.gif

and you are in Japan right? rolleyes.gif

Is it easy to find fish and tanks in Japan? ...and bring it home?

I am planning to live in Japan myself, but I only saw one japanese pet store in my life. exactly.gif
Trinket
Yep Hamachi I'm in Japan. biggrin.gif There are plenty of fish stores and tanks to choose from but the problem is in discussing them here as all the names are different. Anyway good luck with plans to live here. I'ts a good place all considered. smile.gif
Graham
Hey - sorry I missed your question... I have seven fish in the 12g and I wouldn't recommend having more than that. If you mix sexes, then I would aim to only 4-5 in one tank. I selected all males to avoid breeding as Killifish are livebearers. (Which is another cool thing about killis! THey also have a labyrinthine organ, like Bettas, so they can breathe some air - which can be very life-saving for little jumpers! Oh yeah, they are jumpers!!! LID!) SO, did you get any killis?!?! yeah.gif
x-Lucy-Fish-x
lol graham biggrin.gif so they are livebearers aswell aaand they have a labyrinth organ.. pretty cool fish
Trinket

rofl3.gif I have to get some of these babies. They sound so cool I agree. I am dealing with a sick moor and some domestic stuff right now but when things calm it is my plan...I had no idea they were air breathers and livebearers too smile.gif! Can't wait.
Trinket
Thought you might like to see the same tank now its set up and ready to go..
I've decided to use it for my 2 Siamese doll fish. Also found out that 70 liters is 18 gallons so it's bigger than I first thought. Here it is...user posted image
