Anyone know what probiotics exactly are? Says they are in my new fish food here. Its called saki-hikari fancy, breeder preferred. 406.gif

Probiotics are bacteria that favorably alter the intestinal microflora. They inhibit the growth of harmful bacteria, and promote good digestion.

The probiotic in your fish food is probably acidophilus.

Ingredients: astaxanthin (a carotenoid)
Also: fish meal,wheat germ meal, wheat flour,brewers dried yeast, starch, soybean meal, gluten meal, fish oil, spirulina,veg oil,dried seaweed meal, pobioyics (not named)dried bakery product,protease,garlic,monosodium glutinate,DL methionine,vit A oil,vit d &e supp,menadione sodium bisulfite complex,choline chloride,L-hydrochloride, niacin, folic acid, biotin,ferrous sulfate, magnesium sulfate, zinc sulphate, manganese sulfate, cobalt sulfate,copper sulfate, calcium iodate, aluminium hydroxide,sodium acid pyrophosphate.

Well who would have thought you could fit all that nourishment into such a tiny pellet! blink.gif

Probiotics are a good thing, I customarily add acidophilus in my gel food. It really seems to help "floaty" fish.

So would that mean I don't have to soak these before using...?

Wow... What a list of ingredients. I wonder how wild carp ever managed to get along without a good healthy dose of sodium acid pyrophosphate or menadione sodium bisulfite complex in their diet. I sure hope Hikari knows what they're doing.

I think Menadione is Vit. K which is quite useful, not sure what the other is though!
Yeah, it does make you wonder how they come up with these mixtures! Oh well best trust the experts..

I'm using it every other day right now as i just started making gel food which the fish are loving. smile.gif
