I know this might sound like a silly question but can a shubunkin go outside in a pond which already has fish in it?
sandy
Yes it can. but wait until late spring when the water is a bit warmer.

so April/May? is that because it isnt used to the cooler temps??
sandy
Yes, the water is just too cold now and the food in the fishes gut wouldnt process properly and cause infections and even if you acclimated it first I think the fish might still get ill.
April/may sounds a good time to release it. smile.gif

thank you, i hop i keep him for that long, he has his breeding stars and wont leave the oranda alone. im hopefully moving the baby oranda to its own 12g tank soon as its cycled. then there is just the matter of the loaches. how much room do they need?
sandy
I dont think loaches need the same space as goldfish do, they need more in the way of floor space. A tank thats at least 3 feet long I think is the best way to judge the room needed for these fish as they can grow to around 12 inches long.
Oh, and a tight fitting lid as well as they have a tendency to leave the tank especially in thunderstorms.
