My best mate has had goldies for four years and has never had any luck with them (mostly cos she keeps them in a small 2 gal tank cry3.gif ). But after i discovered kokos i've been trying to convince her to upgrade her tank for a bigger one. Before Christmas she did this and moved her goldie that she's had for 4 years into a nice 10gal. He loved his new home even though he was very scared of all the space. but ignoring my advice about the 10 gal rule she went out and got 2 new fish, but she didn't quarantine them and put them in with her old fish.

Now Jacko has come down with what i thought was white spot (he's had it for more then a month now) and i've given her my meds and told her how to cure him but it's starting to become a horse to water situation. she's put jacko back in his old tank and IS treating him but yesterday when i went round to see him i noticed that he has long white hairs growing out of his scales. and i was wandering is this really whitespot?

I've begged for her to give me her fish but shes having none of it. but atleast if i had some more info about what the fish has i can pass it on.

thanks
sandy
Where on the body are the spots and do the hairs grow out the spots or are they elsewhere.
have you tested her water for her to see what the stats are. I take it as well the other fish are looking good?

Hello, thanks for the quick reply.
The hairs do look like they are growing out of the spots but I’m not 100% sure on that. One of the new fish (the one i think brought the disease) has a cotton like ball at the base of its dorsal fin with one of the hairs growing out of it. But again i told her to treat the new fish but as of yet she still hasn't done it. Like wise with the stats of her tanks I’ve offered but she keeps saying no and that I’m over reacting.
It’s really frustrating because I feel that if they where my fish I would have tried to have done something sooner. She didn’t even tell me about the white spots till nearly a month after she fist spotted them. krazy.gif

It sounds like fungus, but without a pic and water stats its hard to tell. Is the water heated at all as it could be columnaris which is a deadly bacterial disease that looks like filaments of fungus.
She could add some salt to .3% to try and help and lower the temperature a bit if its too warm.

Thank you sandy i'll let her know
