I was disinfecting my qt tank in my room today running a 1:11ish bleach solution thru the tank and filter and it happened to be only a couple feet away from orchard's tank. I didn't think too much of it and threw towels over Orchard's and the tropical tank and opened the bedroom window, with the door closed incase my cats got any ideas. My dad closed the window a few hours ago so no air could really circulate. I was getting ready for bed and I checked on Orchard and he was acting pretty dazed and gulping air from the surface more than normal. He will not eat. Okay, I would probably act the same if I was woken up at midnight but I'm really worried. I added a few monster squirts of prime into his tank and now I'm hoping for the best. I feel awful and can't sleep now...I can't until I know he is alright. Is there anything else I can do? Maybe a waterchange? The tetras in the other tank are fine, but they are farther away and have a proper hood (Orchard's got a kritter keeper). Ugh...

Hi kissy - if the bleach didn't touch the water but was there in the air, it shouldn't do too much damage - but it could have irritated the gills some.

You could do a 50% waterchange to refresh their water and just keep an eye out. A solution of 1:11 isn't too strong but if there's some gill discomfort, then cleaning the water may be just what Orchard needs

aww... i hope nothing serious is wrong with orchard, and that he's all back to normal tomorrow!

Thank you so much Jen. He actually did eat the pellet when I was down here, and I have my bedroom fan on with the door open. I'd have my window open too if I didn't have an alarm system. No bleach ever touched his water...I made sure of that. He could have just been dazed from being woken with a bright light :rolleyes I'm already heating up some water for a water change anyways. He's my baby, so I can afford to be paranoid

I'm always a bit dazed when woken with a light in my eyes Seriously though, as long as the bleach didn't touch the water, there should be no harm done at all - especially with fresh air circulating now

Everything seems good now When he saw the blue water changing cup he gave me this look that said "Not again woman! You just gave me a water change YESTERDAY!". He was good tho, and he did a little feed me dance at the end so I gave him a bit of a krill treat. I'm glad my baby's safe I don't take chances with him at all if you can't tell lol.

Buckets are in the bathroom now. I could dump them...but I'm just too tired now. I'll do it tomorrow. Goodnight all

I'm just glad he's better now, I can deal with his tail biting another time.

I think he likes to purposefully worry me so I pay extra attention to him. Well...he's got it! We had to do a sketch of a few animals this week as art hw and I drew him today I elongated his tail in the picture tho...whether he likes it or not
