Well, carp is a very broad term, and the family consists of many, many species of fish, including koi and goldfish. What kind of carp exactly are you implying?

here's a page on carp to help you:

the wild ones that are brown .... or is there any non bright koi or common golffish out there because i am looking for a broe colored fish right now in the carp family
d_golem
Well of course there are common goldfish that are brown/bronze coloured. U can get them almost anywhere and they're sold for very very cheap cos they're mostly intended for food for carnivorous fish.

If u don't mind me asking, why do u seek a brown-coloured fish from the carp family?

yea thats one thing i dont get y do common gold fish not get much respect evry one thinks of them as feeder fish but i guess its personal prefrances cause i hate fancy gold fish but alot of people love um

thx for the info tribana.gif fish.gif -big fish-

Don't get me wrong. Most of us here love all kinds of goldfish and most of us are also strongly against goldfish as feeders.

Wild Carp and fish like tench grow huge and really need a large pond to be kept in. Where you thinking of a pond as an aquarium is really too small for any fish larger than koi.

it was just a question i am not thinking of geting a wild carp but it whould be cool to have on also do u know if a goldfish can get more that a foot long?

because i am looking for a big fish but i dunno if i want koi or gf how big do koi get
sandy
Koi can get to 3 feet with the right size pond and that can take years to achieve. Depending on genetics the common goldfish can get anywhere between 8 inches and 18 inches long.
Big Fish
wow koi get big is it hard even with good care to get a gf 18 inches
d_golem
An 18-inch common or comet is big, but should be achieveable. I've seen koi more than 3 feet long and it sent shivers down my spine.....huge fish....

Simply speaking, and this may sound harsh. Koi do not belong in aquariums and do not do well. They need a minimum of 250 gl's each. A aquarium is to "open" of a environment. Nor do they do well singly. They are also messier then even the common goldies and needs good filtration. They grow faster then you think. A good koi should be in the 12" or better mark by the time it is a 2 year old. Magoi or Chagoi would be the colors your looking for here.

My advice is to look to a common or comet if you intend to keep a fish of the carp species in a Aquarium. Given the right amount of water and good filtration, these can also become very large. Plan on 20 gl's or better each and lots of filtration. 50 if they go in pond.

They would, as long as you're not overstocked nad their genetics allows them to get big
