I was wondering if feeding algae disks can lead to an algae bloom in the tank. Dumb question probably, but I was just curious

Hmmm, I dont' think so. I have recently had to start giving my pleco these discs to ensure he was eating enough and I haven't had a problem.
Let's see what others have to say.

I have been feeding these to my plecos in my tropical tank for a long time and have never had a problem with them!
As a matter of fact, its the tanks I do not use the algea disks in that I have the algea problem with!

i would not of thought so as algae is a living thing and the algae on algae disks will not be alive

yeah...but you kjnow how when you buy seeds at the store and they are all dehydrated but add water and POOF! you have a plant (well, not quite so instant, lol). But I was thinking like that I guess, that no, its not alive, but if you add water could it sprout I guess???
See I told you, dumb question. hehe

XD I don't have a problem with em either, I use them as treats for my goldies

They are munched down in minutes so they don't have long to develop into anything hehe

I drop one in everyday! Even if it could grow algae (which it can't) my fish "sniff" it out and then a feeding frendzy gets underway!! There is NO TIME for any possibilty of Growing!!

I dont think you are getting my point. A sunflower is a living thing, but it comes from a seed, which you say is NOT a living thing. Nevermind.

I think sunlight would be the cause of algae growth in your tank. The wafers dought would do it. If you are afraid of it anyway, just feed what they can eat. Mine will gobble one up in a short time but if yours can't finish one off break it in half (or less)! then you won't have to worry!

lol. Actually, I dont have green algae in my tank, I have brown algae, and there is not direct sunlight on it. It just appears there for some reason.
The reason I was asking is kind of silly. I wondered if it would be a fast way to jump start a green algae pond. lol. Ok im dumb nevermind just ignore me now. See i knew it was a stupid question. hehe

Actually now I'm curious! How does algea reproduce? Maybe someday in the far away future when people realize algea is good maybe there will be a "Grow Your Own Instant Algea Kit".
