Hi, i bought one of those GLADE plug in air freshners - and i realise now that it has a warning about about aquarium fish and how it might be dangerous...do they mean the toxins might get sucked through the airpump and get into the water that way?
i will not use them until i confirm their toxicity so thanks for any comments

I wouldnt use them in the same room as the tank. If you have an air pump or anything that takes in air then best to be safe and not use it.

Honestly, I used scented candles in the same room as my fish tank. I have never noticed them acting weird or anything. I wouldnt use aerosal sprays or anything, but like candles and other scent releasers I have used.
Im not saying I recomend that at ALL, but just letting you know that I do it and havent noticed any negitive effects

If the packaging for the Glade air freshener has a warning about it's use and aquarium fish. There is no way I'd use it in the same room as the fish.

I think, not positive, the warning is meant that if the air freshener itself comes in contact with the tank water, it is toxic. I have use scented candles [and even set them on my tank hoods] with my fish, simply because of the smell of them.
A good alternative is to use baking soda in the room with your goldies. If it works for everything else, why not try it? When I used baking soda to maintain a pH of 8.2 in my tanks, I noticed they were a little less stinky. Of course, the carbon inserts were also working properly at that time, which may have helped too.

I guess I would agree with everyone else so far, As long as it specfiacally states NOT to use them aruond fish then it's better to be safe than sorry.
I don't use the plug-in kind's but I do have candle's and use spray freshner in my LR.

Raivynn, your fish tanks should not smell bad. A healthy balanced tank will smell like fresh creek water and is a pleasant smell...but you can't really smell it unless up lift the hood or get right next to it. Something might be up with your water quality.

I would agree if it says to keep away from aquariums I wouldn't chance it. There may be a 1-800 number on the package you can call and ask someone for more specific info...although sometimes the people answering the phone are idiots, but that might be worth a try if you must use something for the air. I'd stick with candles though!

Candles for me too. I just prefer them. If you get real good ones, you dont even have to light them for the smell.

What about smoking in the same room as your tank? Does that affect the fish???

I think that would be up there with aerosols etc. You're basically introducing toxins into the air and it's the same air that aerates your tank water
