My husband has gotten the bug now lol

And he wants, in his words, "a bada$$ fish." He's silly. What I am looking for are names of good aggressive fish that are relatively easy to keep.

Thanks for the help

If he wants a tank of aggressive fish then the tiger barb would be number 1 for a smallish sized tank.
By smallish I mean around 30 gallons as they like to be in big groups and need the swimming space. It would be unwise to add any other fish with them.
They arent truly carnivorous though, just mean.

Piranha springs to mind as being truly carnivorous but you are talking big tanks here, as are Arrowanas, and a lot of large growing cichlids though not carnivorous are nasty to other fish.

some of the smaller cichlids can be just as aggressive, but most are colorful as opposed to 'bada$$' lookin. when i think of a mean lookin fish i'd have to go w/ pihrana or red-bellied pacu, the later of which really isn't that aggressive, just looks that way. but for both we're talkin 200 gallon tanks at a minimum.

check out the wolffish. i saw a baby one at a petstore onetime and thought he was the coolest thing. til i came home and found this link . still, and amazing looking fish, even if they don't make the best aquarium fish.

orr, for a mere 125 gallons and a tight lid, you could get one of the best fish in aquaria today, Balantiocheilus melanopterus biggrin.gif

I think chiclids fit your description. Some of them are quite hardy, very colorful too. Many species (oscars especially) possess personalities, very close to other pets. But the tank size minimum is 55gal. I think with some of the smaller chiclids, you can house 1 pair in a 29 gal, but I haven't seen anyone done this before.

If you can afford a big tank, I'd go for an arowana (my favorite fish). It's such a graceful fish.

Arowana is such a graceful fish (and pricey too), but also bada$$ enough to please ur husband.

arowanas are very cool lookin bad@$$ fishes. predatory and carniverous, you can expect to feed them live or raw proteins. they also can grow incredibly large, i've seen a pair of silver arowanas 1 1/2 feet long in a 500 gallon aquarium at my old lfs; and the guys said they could get even bigger before they're done! you'd be lookin at an incredibly large tank for these guys, as they need a lot of swimming room (aren't you proud of me sandy, i remembered the swimming room biggrin.gif ) if you don't give 'em enough room they could jump, and might just bust your hood on the way out.

Well, we got the new fish. Went to the LFS and got 2 Tiger Oscars. They pouted for a couple of days, until we figured out it was the light that was bothering them. They seem to us now, will swim to the side of the tank and do the happy dance. Their names are Rambo and Louie. Rambo is more aggressive, when it comes to food, than Louie. But they are great pals...always together!

Thanks for the ideas!

Oscars are such intelligent fish and are the tropical equivalent of goldfish, though they are more messy and need more room. Congrats on the two you have. smile.gif

Thank you! We are enjoying them. We are working on getting them a 100 gallon tank. So, they will have room to grow!
