Full Version: How Long Does It Keep

I always wonder how long we should keep tubs of food. The packet expiry dates are like 3 years away but I usually only use one tub/packet for about 4 months, and it's still half full when I throw it away. Is this too long or am I being over careful? I would like to know how long do other people keep their bought fish food?

I keep the fishfood (a variety of about 6 different kinds of flake and pellet) in a dry box and each tub is sealed. I had a bad experience using flake food in an automatic feeder one summer we were away. Came back and the damp from the tank must've spoiled the food in the feeder- it stank and was bad. Since then have been somewhat paranoid about the food being fresh.

I know homemade gel food is maybe best but I haven't got round to that just yet.
I also feed veggies once a week or so.

blink.gif I have enough fish as to where nothing actually stays that long in my house! laugh.gif As long as there's alot of expiration time, and you're keeping it in a dry/cool place,I would think that it would still be fine in 4 months.JMO though.. laugh.gif
