smile.gif Well, I know you have had this question before but its a daily problem for me and I'm still unsure if I'm doing it right.

My three goldfish get a varied menu. As you all with goldfish know they would eat all day long if allowed. exactly.gif

On the days when I feed them the Progold pellets I never know if I'm feeding them enough. I soak the pellets for a while and then pour them into their dish. The vacum cleaners suck them up and the pellets are gone. Because the fish suck up more then one pellet at a time, they spend a little while chewing, but then go back to the dish looking for more. rolleyes.gif

When do you decide that they have had enough and just being little pigs or if they are truly still hungry? Do you give them a certain number of pellets or a certain amount of time to continue eating? krazy.gif

Thanks,
Tinkokeshi
haha i use to wonder this too... how big are your goldfish?

i use to feed my moor (who was about 1-1.5 inches) crushed up pro-gold. i would feed him about the equivalent of 2-3 pellets about 2 or 3 times a day. i'm not sure if that was correct though, but since i had to crunch up the pellets... they made the water a bit messy. smile.gif

smile.gif I have two orange orandas and one black moor and they are all the same size. I would guess they are about 4-5 in long. Hard to get an exact measure on them.

I hate to overfeed them but then again I hate to think I'm straving them.
Tinkokeshi
well since your little dudes are bigger than mine, i' say maybe 4-5 pellets each maybe 2 times a day?

i'd think it's better to underfeed than over feed... i'm not sure though... haha maybe someone else will have more helpful advice. biggrin.gif

::edit:: what is your name btw vmlola?

My gf love their progold!!! They would so over eat if I let them.

What I do is put enough in there for them to eat for about 2 minutes twice a day. This is a good amount.

i know with the size the pellets come in, some of the smaller fish have a hard time "chewing" them... so i put some in a sandwich bag and folded that into a paper towel, and smashed away with the back end of my stapler (since i didn't have anything else to use)... it's easier for some of the small dudes to eat if it's in smaller chunks... biggrin.gif just make sure you don't grind it into powder... that causes havoc with your water. dry.gif

For a 5" moor, in my opinion it's a bit underfed. Your moor will certainly be okay with 6-8 pellets per feed, but a bit more is no harm (and probably better), as long as your filtration system can handle the increased feeding.
20 Hikari pellets is nothing, not if you compare my feeding regime with that of gchen's biggrin.gif his little calico ranchu tripled in weight in only a month!!

LOL Hsi Hou!
I know that sounds drastic, but lately I'm kinda "pumping up" my fish a bit and it worked biggrin.gif they're more robust and active than ever.

Apparently, I'm underfeeding mine also. I just received my first order of Progold yesterday and I think I fed about 4 pellets per fish this morning. I have about a 4 1/2-5" oranda, 4 1/2-5" fantail and two 3-3 1/2" orandas. No wonder they looked at me like I was starving them this morning! They were probably insulted by the meager portions. sad.gif blink.gif

yea...i upped Blackie's food portions to about 12 progold pellets (5" moore) and he went from "LA DEE DA, FOOD OKAAAAAY" to "FOOOOOD!!! ME ME ME ME ME ME MINE MINE MINE MINE.....MOMMY LOOK AT MEEEEEEEE" *zoom*

wow. he was always such a laid back fishie. he's spoiled by the portions now. thinks swimming in circles will impress me and get him more food. biggrin.gif
