I bought a new 75g tank today and I can't wait to get it set up and cycled!! I've been wanting to get some more angelfish for a couple of years now.

It'll probably be next weekend before I can get a chance to set it up. I'm gonna need lots of advice regarding angelfish since it's been several years since I had any. I don't know what ph they need, food...all that important stuff.

I'm so excited! exactly.gif

Conrats on the new tank smile.gif

As a general rule, Angels prefer pH between 5.8-7.0, temp between 75°F-82°F and a well planted tank (can be fake plants if you do not have a green thumb)

congrats on th new tank. from what youve said about wanting 'more' angels, i guess you have kept them before, but what FGFG said is right smile.gif

Yes, I had two of them years ago. I bought them when they were very small and they grew to be huge! I'm really surprised too since I knew nothing about them and never tested my water params. It was sheer luck that they survived!

FGFG, my ph is high...8.4 out of the tap. It runs about 8.2-8.4 in my gf tank also. How can I safely lower the ph? I've heard of a product called Bullseye...can I use that to lower the ph?

Also, the tank came with two Penguin 330 filters. Will this be enough filtration for the 75g?

The lady I bought the tank from sold it because they couldn't get fish to live. She said everything they bought would die. Well...I think I know why! When I got home with everything, there were no bio wheels with the filter. I called her back to ask about them and she said her husband broke one of them and threw the others away after that. She proceeded to tell me that I didn't need the bio wheels anyway. Her husband said it would work just fine without them. I'm thinking...duh, no wonder you couldn't get anything to live! blink.gif

rolleyes.gif Her ignorance was your gain though! wink.gif As for dropping the ph safely,I don't know much about dropping it-I'm always trying to raise mine for the snails! laugh.gif I do know that in my Angel fish tank,I keep Driftwood in there for the Pleco's and that takes my ph from around 7 to about 6.6-6.8,and it's not even a huge piece of driftwood. You may want to consider using a few pieces to take the ph down naturally. I have two Angel's right now.The one keeps laying eggs ,and I'm not even sure that I have a true pair because my Pleco's eat them before I can see if they hatch laugh.gif For Tropical's your filter's sound fine in my opinion-Of course how heavy you stock the tank, may matter.Good luck and keep us posted. biggrin.gif

There is a piece of driftwood (maybe even two, can't remember for sure) that came with the tank. I hadn't planned to use it because I really didn't like the way it looked. It's attached to a bunch of rocks siliconed together to make a circle and the driftwood stands straight up...probably about 12" tall. Since you say this will lower the ph though, I'll find a way to make it work in the tank.

I'm not planning to overstock (but we all know good intentions sometimes go down the drain! biggrin.gif ). I read that angelfish need 10g of water each also, so I'm planning to try two pair of them. I really haven't checked to see what's compatible with them yet, so I don't know what else I'll get.
