In the middle of the night I woke up and I noticed Siam was going crazy. He was swimming laps around tank. I thought well maybe he's just out for an early morning jog. I decided to get up and check on him. At first I didn't see anything abnormal and from what I could tell nothing was in the bubble nest(s). I know newborn fry can be really hard to see so I grabbed a flashlight and shined it on the nest and behold I see little tiny slivers hangging from it! At first I thought I was a bit delusional so I just went back to bed and waited to see what morning would bring.
And what did it bring?
FRY! Their much easier to see now. I'm not sure how many there are yet. Every once in awhile one will fall out of the nest and dart back up to the nest by itself. Siam is sitting under the nest watching the fry sink down and dart back up. I did see one fry sink right past his eye, he watched it with interest and then swam over and gulped it up. I watched with baited breath to see what he'd do with it. Like the super dad he's been he swam back up to the nest and put it back. As he was returning the rouge fry he hit the nest with his dorsal and caused around 6 fry to rain down from it. Siam got this panicked look and started to swim back and forth catching and spitting. After he got them all he cruised the bottom of the tank looking for any stragglers. Oh, if he only new what he's in for the next couple days, poor guy.
I couldn't ask for a better dad for my first spawn.
I'll udate to this post so keep checking back.
