I was also wondering what type of things do i need to have for a hospital tank,

do i need
a heater
filter
rocks

Thanks!

I will keep an eye at goodwill and www.freecycle.org as well for fish stuff!

My Hospital/QT tank is 10 gallons. I've read in many places online that 10 gallons is usually good, but depending on the kind of fish you keep and how many you need to medicate/QT at once, you could perhaps get away with a 5 gallon.

You'll want a heater to maintain a steady temp, thermometer to tell what the temp is, a filter of course (you won't want something with a really strong flow that will stress a sick fish out though!) and some places for your fish to hide.

My QT tank is home to my betta for now. There is a nice spot behind my internal filter for him to hide behind and a live plant that has grown to the opposite side it's planted on so it provides some cover from the light and also a spot on the far side for him to hide. I don't have much gravel in mine at all.. Just a few handfuls on one side deep enough for my plant to root.

Somebody else may have other suggestions or ideas for you, but that's all I have for my QT/hospital tank smile.gif Good luck!

but right now, since you dont have any sick fish, the money reeeeally needs to be spent on a master test kit, its soo important smile.gif

i know but i have 60 dollars to spend and i am sure that i can get a test kit and maybe start a hospital tank!

Thanks!

i am caring for tropicals- platies and mollies and guppies!@

Thanks! Do you think i can get by with a 5 gallon hospital tank!

oh cool, yea 5 gallon will be fine for tropicals like that, but i hear the tens are just as cheap over there anyway? a ten gallon for ten bucks? ooooor a cool idea.. you could get a 20 gallon for your tropicals (are you still overstocked?) and use the ten you already have for a hospital, but if there are other more important things you need, consentrate on those first as none of your fish are sick are they (?) so its not that important.

Edit: OMG! that was my 2,000th post *dances* krazy.gif

none of my fish are sick and the 20 gallon that i was looking at is 72.00 something at wolly world so maybe i will do that! keep the 10 gallon as a hospital tank and then get the 20 gallon i am a little over stocked! I am trying to sell some of my platies! I have not posted anything in thwe buy sell or tade area but i am going to!

ok well since the one you were looking at is $72, you can use some of the $60 you have now to get a test kit, then keep the rest and add to it over time and you will soon have enough to get the 20 gallon, does that sound like a good plan? smile.gif
just make sure you have the space and everything..

Good plan Lucy smile.gif Dean, try and sell all the male or all the female platies so your # of fish doesn't keep growing
020292
okay! but i really like my fish and have no idea how to tell the difference between the females and the males!

Thanks! I might do that but the person who is giving me the 60 dollars does not like the whole idea of fish so i will have to talk him into it!

With the Guppies and Platies, you can look at their anal fin to tell if they are male or female. If the fin is rounded, it's a female, if it's pointed and sort of folded up against their body it's a male.. If you have at least one male and one female to compare, you'll be able to see what I mean. Just take a good look at the guppies and platies and you'll see the difference smile.gif

Also, about the 20 gallon. Make sure you have something you can stand it on first! Completely filled with water, gravel, etc, it will be over 200lbs require something strong to hold it! I would make sure you have something long/wide enough to hold the tank, and make sure it holds 250-300lbs to be safe.

okay! i am not sure if i am going to get it yet though becuase i just spent 20 on new gravel and a new filter for the 10 gallon! I think i am going to hold off!
tinkerbell
sounds like a good plan. Dean, you *really* do need to get a master test kit next time smile.gif
020292
okay! Maybe that is what i will put on my birthday list!

Thanks!
tinkerbell
sounds like a good idea wink.gif
020292
i have come to the final decision! I am going to get the 10 gallon kit from nnnnnn and then i am going to get everything for it and then i am going to buy a test kit!

What type of fish should i get!
tinkerbell
well, you should definately split up you males and females to stop them reproducing again.. so it depends on how much space you have after that i guess. smile.gif
020292
okay! thanks!
x-Lucy-Fish-x
maybe buy the test kit first?
i've done this before, gone to get something i needed and a few other things, left the important thing till last and realised there was no money left..

havent we all?!
020292
okay so when i looked at those goldfish again this is what it says:

black moors then it has some three letter that i forgot and then it says they grow to six inches!
Ponderosa Power
Never take any word from petstores. Under the right conditions and care, along with good genes, a black moor should grow to be at least 8".
020292
anyway! I heard that i am moving so i am not allowed to get another fish tank! Instead i have to get a computer desk and chair becuase i am having a bigger room and i am getting a computer so i am not getting anything as of right now! I might have my mom buy my computer desk so i can spend the m60 on something else!

Thanks!
tinkerbell
right, so you didnt buy the desk / chair etc then?
before you go out and blast all that money on a new tank, i really suggest you get the essentials (i.e. test kit, gravel vac etc) and then see what you have left over to buy new tank. smile.gif
020292
no i have not but come to find out my mom might buy the desk so i can get all of those things and another tank!

I might make this one a bare bottom so i can save money!
