Full Version: Undergravel Vs. Power Filter

Hi i just got a new 55 gallon filter it comes with a Undergravel Filter but ive read that its for experts only and can get pretty complicated. Ive used power filters before and im not sure if i should buy a new power filter or keep the undergravel filter. can sumone tell me which is better.

smile.gif I think ugf's are good on tropical tanks,but personally for Goldies I don't think they work. Goldies are such huge waste producer's and so much "Muck" can get stored under those UGF's and can cause many problems down the road. I personally would go with a couple of Power Filter's whether they be Aquaclears/Emperor's,or Penguins.It's recommended for you to have 10x's filtration turnover of your tank size,so we're talking filter's that have a total of 550 gph(gallons per hour) for a 55gal. tank,or better. This of course is JMO,and what works for me. smile.gif
