ack!!! bidding on it... 2 mins left!!!
Tinkokeshi
aww i was outbid by $3 in like the last 30 seconds!!! holy moly i'm upset. *sigh*

ok... well now that i'm not in a hurry to buy the darn thing... got a question for y'all. what is the difference between the eheim 2227 wet/dry filter and the 2229? they are both listed together, and i can't seem to find much difference between the two.

the 2229 is about $100 more, so i'm guessing it's is bigger and perhaps holds more media? but i can't seem to find specific numbers or anything. dry.gif

I can't tell you differences I'm sorry but I did happen to see this filter just yesterday at my LPS and it was soooo expensive but it looks really state of the art. Look forward to hearing about it if you can get one Tinkoteshi. Or if anyone else has one??

Hi Emily, I've had a 2229 set up for over a week now (oh, so long... biggrin.gif ) and the only difference between the 2227 and 2229 is the size. While the 2229 has 3 media baskets, the 2227 has 2.

The only thing to keep in mind when getting one is you'll still need to run a mechanical filter alongside of it. It's purely a biological filter which will keep your water parameters good but the mechanical filter goes a long way to filtering out floating debris. Thanks to awrieger (who has a 2227) I understand the system a little better biggrin.gif

Tinkokeshi
thanks jen... i was looking at the descriptions and they looked to be the same thing... i guess i didn't notice that the 2229 was taller. smile.gif yeah if i can get it for a fairly cheap price, i was planning on running it along with two penguin 350s or two emperor 400s... not sure... do you think two 400's and the eheim 2229 would be overkill on a 72 gal. bowfront? (i also currently only have 3 goldfish, but that may change once i get the tank set up). laugh.gif

I love my Eheim!

But I do feel mech filtration is poor...

So, I would go with two penguin 350s or two Emp 400's for a 72g combo with an Eheim. I don't think it is possible to over-filter a GF tank! teehee.gif It is possible to have toomuch current form having a lot of filtration, though, but not so much to worry about with 72g - just arrange plants and stuff to break the currents if the outlow if too strong... I like the power/canister combo alot -lots of flexibility!

Tinkokeshi
hehe ok... i guess combo it is... as soon as i find relatively affordable prices on the canister. laugh.gif

::edit:: all my buddies think i'm crazy btw... cuz i'm planning out ALL the costs and stuff for my tank equipment. like i have it all out on lists:

cheapest NEW coralife lunar aqualight 48" = $212 + shipping
eheim 2227/2229 = looking on ebay, craig's list, and aquabid
emperor 400s x2 = 35.99-37.99 each on bigalsonline.com
72 gal bowfront stand = boyfriend is buying for me, but the cheapest price i've found is i think $250ish..
titanium heater = $16.99 (i think have to double check)
looking into UV sterilizers, live plants, etc.

haha so i've racked up quite a bill w/o even buying anything yet! but i like to plan things ahead so i know how much i expect to spend... *sigh* and then i found that 125 gal on craig's list for only $200 and i just about cried... everyone i know (who happen to NOT own any fish of their own)... tell me to just concentrate on setting up my 72 gal... so i guess i'll start there. once i get that set up, i'll hunt for another good deal. rofl3.gif
