I've never seen any golden barbs in person and info is kinda scarce on the web. I saw a pic while searching...very pretty! What size tank do you have? Barbs are schooling fish and he'll be needing a few friends smile.gif

I hope that helps!

thanks for the links kissy. really appreciate it. biggrin.gif you are very correct. golden barbs are not in all fish stores and the net just give it a simple description about it. its a very active fish (the guy in the fish store hard a hard time getting it on the net. laugh.gif ). swims at the bottom of the tank back and forth. i only have a 10 gallon tank (i dont know if its enough swim space. what do you think?). i only have one right now. just trying it out so to speak. biggrin.gif i might get it some friend as soon as it is settled in. krazy.gif

Hmm...Going off the info on those pages I'd say that your 10 gallon tank would be okay as long as you kept it a species tank and keep only 4ish. What kind of filter do you have? A planted tank would be great for those little guys, and make sure you get more females than males to reduce breeding aggression.

Wait til some one else comes by to approve of the stocking...this is just my uneducated guess.

Totally go with what Kissy has said.
The barb family are aggressive though I think the gold isnt a bad as the green or tiger. 1 male to 3 females is the ideal and dont put any other fish in either.

sandy, how do i know easily if its a male or female? i just choose the one i like (based on size and movement) at my LFS. i did not consider the gender. i saw a site saying about the belling portion being orange during spawning. how do i distinguish it at normal time?
