Well, we brought our first fish home on Monday night and they seem to have settled in well and are very compatable - no chasing or nipping.
Our Ranchu - Mango - is much quicker at feeding as he can SEE, but has quite thick, trailing poop which I think means constipation? I've fed some peas yesterday to help with this and other than that only given cooked zucchini so far.
The Moor - Ziggy - on the other hand, can't ever see anything fast enough to eat it but is very good at the upside down, hoovering manouver. He/she is not constipated so I'm afraid to stop food altogether incase he suffers. What do you think?

peas do well for healthy and constipated fish. most goldfish love them, so it is alright to feed both peas. usually if a fish is constipated, you fast them for 2-3 days and then feed nothing but peas for another 2-3 days.

if you think that your moor is not getting enough food, you can perhaps divide the tank when you feed them. that way the moor has a chance to eat his food before your ranchu gobbles it all down. biggrin.gif

smile.gif I have a black moor in with my two orandas and I felt that he did not get as much to eat, so I hand feed him his food. He really seems to enjoy this! exactly.gif

I would also cut back on the amount of food you are giving them each day...cut it down a bit and see if that helps overall. smile.gif

Thanks - can you give me an idea of how much? Like how many peas each or if I put down a slice if zucchini how long before removing it? Once I start on sinking pellets about how many should I drop in each? I'm using the Tetra Gold.
They always look so desperate to eat I can tell that overfeeding must be a common pitfall.

Hi pixiefish, a good rule of thumb to go by is what the fish can eat in 1-2 minutes twice a day.
With having a fish that is "handicapped" with sight, it is a bit harder. You will need to monitor what gets eaten by who.

But having a day or 2 of fasting every week is a good way of preventing digestive problems.
