so as i was just cleaning spike's tank i noticed i bit of a rip and a hole in his tail! like little deterioration... well i check the perimeters..

Ammonia- .25
nitrate- 5
nitrite- 0
hardness- between 50-120'
ph- 7.2


i added some melafix, yickes guys any idea what it could be?

also ther seems to be a bit of redness or discoloration in his gills... and just now it seemed to me as though he was bitting the water and having troubles getting air.. hoy.. i'm very worried! sad.gif

Im sure the ammonia is causing stress and the redness. Is this a filtered tank? Are you trying to cycle it? YOu'll need to do a small watre change to get the ammonia down. ALso if there is a filter, there might be too much current and that could be causing the rip in the tail.

well the redness is gone, changed a little water and the melafix helped a bit, and the ammonia went down, nope no cyling, and no filter, maybe the rip was from the plant i have in there...

now i do but when he acquired the rips there wasnt any thing else in there! i was praying it wasnt fin rot...
