hi guys!! i'm so excited as i brought a koi today.its a tiny one only 1 and a half inches long.i'm going to shift him to my 79g(its a huge and tall bucket). will he be ok in this blink.gif ??? or should i build a pond or something??i plan of keeping this bucket in my kitchen garden. What kind of filtration would the bucket need??

THANKS!!
Ponderosa Power
Erm...yes you should build a pond. Koi need at least 150 gallons a peice and do not do well in tanks....I think you've heard that though because you already have one. How long will he stay in this bucket and how big is it? It needs a filter that is preferably already cycled and an air stone for oxygen. Ponds are beautiful backyard centerpeices, so check out the koi/pond forum and start diggin'.

You can get a stock tank for an ok price. Im going to get a 500 gallon one for $185. I dont know if thats a good price or not, but its ok with me at least. Easier than dealing with linear, and it comes in grey. I think that would be pretty.

If you dont know what a stock tank is, it is a large container used to water livestock. LIke a huge kiddie pool. Lol. You can get them at farm supply stores, home improvement stores, or hardware stores. Im getting mine at ACE Hardware. smile.gif

Awesome!!! i think even i'll buy a stock tank!! biggrin.gif thanks guys!!

Good idea Gia smile.gif

Good luck with your koi!

Edit: Holy crap fishdude...do you really have a 75 gallon "bucket"? When I hear the word bucket, I think 1-5 gallons lol. If that's the bucket your koi is in for now, I think he'll be okay til you have your pond, as long as the water quality is fine and cycled and you have good aeration.

I hope that you don't have that little guy alone? Koi don't like to be by themselves so if your koi is a loner at the moment please be kind and get him a friend. They can get depressed if left alone.

blink.gif I'm not sure why you bought another one knowing that you didn't have what it takes to keep a Koi...... unsure.gif The fact that you got a 79g(its a huge and tall bucket),doesn't really help as the fish grows because Koi reallt need length not height for swimming. How fast can you dig a pond? laugh.gif
Ponderosa Power
So three koi now? unsure.gif
fishdude
my pond will be ready in an other day or two biggrin.gif .its a 1000g one in ma backyard.
