blink.gif I'm not sure if it goes here, But I have a pic if my two new mountain clouds (They need names by the way!) And I'm wondering if anyone can tell me if one looks full of eggs or just fat, it's very active, not floating or sinking and they're both in my guppy box...just in case they "Do the do" and make me a granny!

Any help will be greatly appreciated, Thanks in advance

They really are very cute...

By the way, its the one on the right, the other looks a little rounder and shorter in the photo...

The one at the front is a female and gravid. But they dont have live young if thats what you were hoping for. These are egg scatterers and it would be wise to release them back into the tnk before they get stressed.
If youve ever watched salmon breeding on the tv then thats how they do it.

Those are very cute fish biggrin.gif

Thanks, the guy in the lfs said they'd be okay in the box they only went in as a just-in-case-it-happens. will clouds eat their eggs? I don't want that!

I'm gonna look so dumb here...How do salmon do it??? blink.gif
sandy
Yes the adults will eat the eggs.
If you want to breed them then you will need a 5 to 10 gallon tank with gravel and a few dense patches of plants.
Leave them there for two weeks then take them out and then you should get some young. It will take a week for you to see any babies.
How they do it, is by the male hitting himself off her side and then they get a little jiggy with it and then she drops her eggs into the gravel and he fertilises them smile.gif

Thanks Sandy! I'm right on it, I hope I get some babies out of this, are clouds easy to breed, like will they just go and do it or do they need gentle persuasion? and do they (the potential parents) need a heater?

I guess when it comes to this sort of stuff...I'm clueless blink.gif

I have bred them by mistake so it is really easy. I used a 4 gallon to house 4 of them and i think it was 3 females and 1 male. I had a heater set at 24c and a sponge filter.
As i was doing some fish stocking manouvres i left them in there for a couple of weeks. There was a thin layer of gravel and a lot of soft live plants in the middle and there was no overhead light, just natural.
I just left them for two weeks and fed them each day.
A couple of days after i moved them out I saw what looked like tiny black marks darting about the top and then realised they were baby fish. They were this big _ with little dots on either side which were the eyes.
Sadly i lost them all when I put a couple of newborn guppy fry in as they ate them.

lol, He must have been a happy little bloke then, his own mini harem!

I don't have a heater anymore (my nice big all-in-one filter went bust)
is that okay?I'm also scared of her getting egg bound, if they don't spawn will she still release her eggs? I guess its 90% sheer luck involved here!

Well with fingers crossed I may get a late xmas prezzie! biggrin.gif

I have also bred white clouds and their easy to breed. I had 6 white clouds in a bear 10 gallon tank, a few bunches of live weeds and no heater. White clouds are one of the few fish that don't eat their babies if well fed. I let the babies grow up with the adults and never had a problem with the babies getting eaten. Of course it's possible that a couple babies might have been eaten but their were lots of babies and I didn't notice if a couple got eaten.

Check my Mountain Cloud. Is it going to have babies? or is it ill?

Should i seperate them from my main tank?
sandy
That is a serious problem i'm afraid. Its not eggs thats causing it but probably tumours.
Did it happen slowly or appear suddenly?

Female white clouds are usaully a little fatter than the males. But your fish is too fat.

I agree with sandy. It looks like your fish has a serious problem.

It comes and goes. One day its huge others its smaller! ohmy.gif

Anything you'd recomend?

sandy
Does the fish ever look normal?
Ive never seen anything like it i'm afraid but by the way the head is being tilted up
then it must be really uncomfortable.
As for meds I cant think of anything that will help. Have you seen it poo at all or is the vent area red?
What is the fishes diet?
MyLittleBlacKMoor
Oh the poor thing i hope its ok, It definately looks sick, it gets bigger and smaller...that's something i've never heard of.

Anyway, good luck with your cloud! heartpump.gif

P.S You said "Them." Do any of the others look like that??
