I've got a problem I've got 5 golden rams in my tank and I've just noticed 1 of them has got hole in the head ill.gif .
never had this problem before, done water tests and everything is good could not be better
so the question is what do i do now? i have not got a hospital tank so i cant separate my fish, will my other rams become infected, and what is the best course of action.
I think he has had it for about 1 week his behaviour is the same only thing is he seems to have just developed rapid gill movement.
Thanks for any help.

Is the hole like a pin-hole? Does it frequently have trails of mucous coming out of the hole? Or is it like a gouged out hole? If it is indeed "hole-in-head" disease, you will need a medication that has the ingrediant "metronidazole". Only some parasitic medications will have this, and it is the only drug that will cure it. I know Parasite Clear has this drug in it, but I don't know how effective it is because it is a lower dosage. Also look for a medicated food with metronidazole in it too. Time is crucial...I've battled hole-in-head before.

If its a big chunk out, it could be bacterial...in that case you need an anti-bacterial medication. Please post back soon with more info smile.gif

it looks more like a big zit on his head but there is a long line of mucous coming out normaly yellowish ill.gif in colour.
but i have been down my fs today and they gave me the medison i needed they also told me to take out the carbon filter as well so here goes time for a battle i think blink.gif

What meds did they give you? Any chance of a photo? Hole in head usually looks like pin holes or dents, and bacterial infections are more puss looking or elavated. I believe both can have mucous coming out but I'm not positive. You need to take out carbon right before you add any medication.

Aww I'm sorry he didn't make it sad.gif Hopefully the others will be okay. What meds are you using in the tank? Some can be pretty harsh.

yeah its always sad to see a fish go but the other rams seem to be more carm now the ill one has now gone (they did chace him about alot i think they knew somthing was up) and i always under dose my tank when medicating it just to be on the safe side.

Sorry I'm not mad or anything smile.gif I have never heard of that medicine, but I did a quick search and saw that it does treat bacterial infections, along with many other things. Just curious...what are the active ingrediants?

I hope all goes well with the rest of your rams heartpump.gif
